Right then. My wife bought me a puppy for my birthday and we have a mature cat and he is not liking the new mental addition to the family. How do i try and help make them become friends??????

Erm, make sure the cat doesn't feel left out (he'll be used to be the only one!) and, try and give him a break from the puppy so he still gets time on his own. They should get used to each other eventually (especially as the puppy calms down).

We got a new puppy (when we had an older dog already), they took some time to tolerate each other. Still have the occasional barney but mostly alright!

3 cats and 4 dogs here, as above, dont let the cat feel left out, and when (not if) it has a go at the puppy' leave them to it, its got to let the puppy know who'se in charge so when it grows up it remembers who'se in charge,
cats have servents
dogs have masters

The puppy will soon learn to repect the cat. Remember 5 of their 6 ends are pointy! Let the cat sort the puppy.

Get them both neutered. They'll unite in their hatred for you
