One of the truly great guitarists in his early days with Fleetwood Mac but was only a shadow of that when he re-emerged from mental illness and seclusion.

The best.
Best guitarist, best singer and , if you look at 'man of the world' or 'green manalishi' best songwriter too

One of the tragic stories too, cut off in his prime like Syd Barrett. But at least he made it to old age. Not as tragic as Danny kirwan you could argue

Not surprised by this news given his condition when he re-emerged in the mid 90s.

Four of the best tracks mentioned already. Everyone should listen to those four immediately. Come back and ask for more once you have…

I'd always liked Peter Green and I've been (trying to) play along with an old CD of his recently, Albatross and the like. I put him in the same category as Sid Barrett as they both contributed massively to bands in the '60s, shone like crazy diamonds and burned out like a firework leaving something almost unrecognisable behind.

I think I'll go and do a bit of strumming.

Albatross was my dad's choice for his funeral. His favourite song. Sad news.

One of my favourite guitarists of all time and one of the reasons I bought a guitar 30 odd years ago.

Not surprised by this news given his condition when he re-emerged in the mid 90s.

Still didn’t stop him getting out and gigging - I saw him play in Bristol with the Splinter Band some years back, watching those songs being played and sung by the man who wrote them was quite an experience, one never to be forgotten.
And I’ve seen the Mac play live twice as well, so that’s covered their entire musical history.
He did look pretty fragile, although his expression said a lot about how much it meant to finally have an audience who really appreciated his music after so long.
RIP Peter, a man of the world, for whom the world proved too much. 🙁

Sad news, another part of my youth gone too soon .
Brilliant guitarist, song writer and seemed a decent human being.

RIP .

That Albatross video was great, looked like a slideshow of albatross's holiday snaps put to their favourite soundtrack.

Always remember watching a Fleetwood Mac documentary thing where they told the story about Peter and the piece of cheese stuck in his hair. Something along the lines of him having a piece of cheese in his hair wasn't unusual, but they knew he'd gone of the rails when it was there two weeks later!

I saw Peter Green at the Holmfirth Picturedrome the last time he toured. It was a huge privilege to see him performing. A memory I'll keep forever.

He was my favourite guitarist and the best blues player of his generation. RIP.

Can't beat his work with Fleetwood Mac but I liked some of his solo stuff from the late 70s

Meant to add to my earlier comment, the very first two 7” singles I bought with my pocket money were Albatross and Dragonfly.

This thread has me listening to The Vintage Years on vinyl. Awesome. How could such a band evolve into the one of later years?

Even more impressive when you find out he was a bass player and took up the electric guitar when he heard Clapton play.

Drugs. Acid did for Green then along comes the US influence with cocaine.
Religion. Bye bye Spencer.
