Got a new puppy arriving next week and just remembered the insurance.
Any recommendations?
Currently using Tesco for our 9yr old Springer. They've not been too bad but happy to use another.

Petplan are what we use most. Decent coverage for not too much cash. We tried sainsburies once and it was a struggle to get them to pay out (not recived the paperwork from he vets.... 3 times in a row by fax!) And bumped the premiums up after one claim.

Petplan. Not the cheapest but very good cover. With a new puppy may be worth having the better cover encase something crops up. They will cover a condition for the life of the pet.

Much cheaper options are available.

I have reported you for starting a dog post with no photos, shame on you.

We've just gone with Petplan for our pup (Mini Schnauzer) too. The Mrs sorted it all out and came to the same conclusion as taffy & sandwhicheater.

If the pup has been registered with the Kennel Club you should get 4 weeks insurance included with the registration IIRC.

Went with More th>n for the cat

tbh the premiums were very similar the more you pay the more cover you get. Pedigree dog vet's bill £1000's quite easily mongrel cat several hundred

Petplan. Others just don't pay out IME.

The oh haz bred pedigree cats for about 9 years.

Unexpected vets costs/ilness can be walet meltingly expensive (pedigre or moggy/mongrel) dont cheap out and get the most basic and do ge the cover for life oprion. Microchipping is also a dammmn good idea (we have had cats re united with their owners after wandering off as well as thefts) as well as spaying/neutering (though any reputable breeder or animal charity will have done this before hand really)

Pppppuuuuuuupppppyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! That's more like it.

It looks ace. Wish our dog stayed that size.

Insurance can be very handy. Ours after cutting her leg open. £500 vet bill apparently. Just told the vet we were with Petplan and didn't have to do anything.

A couple of years back our older Springer ruptured his cruciate.
£2400 please.
Almost 12 months later his other went.
That was another £2400 and the insurance didn't want to pay that one saying it was diseased like his first.
Vet played a blinder and they eventually payed up.
Whilst he was bed ridden with the second rupture the wife gave him a "dog safe" bone which he crunched away at and swallowed a great big bit of bone.

JOY.

The vet was going to do an emergency op to remove it from his intestines when an enema flushed it out.
Fortunately that only cost about £100 and not the £2500 ish we were expecting for the op.

My wonderful border collie is due to go in for cruciate surgery next week. I only got him in March and he's been insured by petplan for just about a month (over the time required for claims, fortunately).

Going to the 'Willows Vet Centre' in Solihull on Tuesday. Its going to be difficult getting him to not try to run about afterwards. That's most probably what caused it in the first place!

Willows don't do 'direct' payment, so it will have to come out of my pocket to start with. Bah!
