So, let’s recommend some decent bottled lagers then..
We hammered Peroni to death, let’s see what Welles is out there..
Estrella is a good call, so too Moretti.
I prefer bitter lagers, not the sickly sweet syrup the mass produced odour liquids seem to represent..
Alcohol and dehydration due to alcohol gives you a headache, not Peroni per se...
Bikebuoy, I really like a hop house 13, yes it's mass produced but it's ace on a warm day.
Moretti Rossa or Peroni Rossa.....
beer for people who don't like lager.
oh, and Ichnusa... Sardinian non-filtered stuff. also nice.
Asahi FTW.
Excellent choices, keep em coming.
Nothing like cooooold lager in the sunshine 👍
Not technically a lager, but Sierra Nevada is ace on a summers day too, if only it was 600ml!
German.
End of thread.
Singha is my go to lager. Can't beat a cold Singha in Thailand!!
Belgian
End of thread
Isn't it UK Gov duty ABV rules that have caused the pishing of lager in the UK market?. A lot of what was fairly decent beer lager has been brewed to Gnats Pish for the UK market in order to get under duty thresholds. Amstel being a good example, 15 years ago it was a very decent 5%+ ABV continental beer (and probably still is in mainland Europe), now it's something like 4.1% ABV and nothing like I remember.
Budvar.
If we're talking about marketing triumphs of the booze world, Champagne has got to be top of the list. Made in an area where you can't get a decent wine from a single varietal, and it's too cool to complete the fermentation without it going fizzy, somehow they've sold two attributes you'd avoid if you could into some of the most valued.
Super Bock
Krombacher
Rothaus
Hogstar
Caesar Augustus (OK, it's a lager/IPA hybrid, but it's ace!)
Veltins
Mahou 5
Keo
GS Spaten
Warsteiner
Etc.
Life's too short to drink crap beer.

I agree, but why is Mahou on your list Captn?
I can't drink a pint of anything these days, but Pilsner Urquell was always my favourite tipple that wasn't bitter or Trappist. I accidentally ordered a pint ( well, half litre) of Peroni in a pizzeria in Spain and only managed about a third of it before the boak set in.

Try the Gluten free Peroni for price!

I got about 30 bottles for 70p each in tesco the other week.
Normal peroni is actually gluten free. Tennents too.
Just drinking Menabrea again in a warm Pisa whereas others drinking tennents super yeuch
Belgian

Most Belgian beers aren't lagers.
Vedett, Estrella or Modelo for me
Sam Smith's Pure Brewed Organic Lager gets my vote.
When we lived in Italy a couple of years ago we used to pay €1 for a 750ml bottle at the local supermarket.
It's massively overpriced here in the UK.
Budvar, Pilsner Urquell and Kozel are all better lagers than Peroni.
I like those little Bier d'or. Keep cold whilst you drink them
Like Peroni - Nastro Azzurro. For a mass produced beer it's very refreshing. Is it expensive because it's not brewed under license here/not quite as mass produced as some? Dunno.
Got to be from a bottle though, I always think beer in a can is awful.
Also I generally hate Prosecco, but it's a stupid thing to say as not all Prosecco is made equal.
Every time I wander into some micro-brewary or dad beer setuo and try some of the specialist beers - I think they're crap. My palate never developed in that regards.
You like what you like.
I had a pint of red stripe this evening. I bet it’s made in a massive factory in the Midlands.
You're not far off,Red stripe is brewed in Bedford, actually brewed not just canned or bottled.Charles Wells to be exact, I used to supply them.
I can spanner in a Blackpool story here. I was in the Bierkeller with my mate a few years ago. I went to the bar to get a couple more of whatever German offering they had on. The lad next to me was looking up and down the taps when he collared the barman, " 'ere mate, 'ave you got owt normal!?" "Weve got Carling." "I'll have 22 pints of that."
Some people just don't give a shit what they drink so long as they've heard of it and it's cheap.
I’m not going to Belgium until the CX season starts, don’t suppose any of you have a spare suitcase shape in your luggage so you could bring some back for me ??
🤪🤣☄️
Wait till you get a taste for Craft beer. Just paid over £60 for 18 tins from Left handed giant.
Three quid for a can of beer? Ye mad? 🤣
Duty is linear so the ABV cost goes up in a straight line . There is no threshold point at which i ramps up/down.
Peroni pay alot of people to mystery shop so bar staff can earn £20 for converting the " I will have a pint of Lager plaese" customer to a Peroni, served in a branded glass, logo forward.
They also incentivise all the way up the food chain .
It is allso the most expensive to buy in , approx £120 for 88 pints iirc , then x 3 plus vat for your tap price to cover your margin.
Peroni also offer alot of well branded POS , which all adds to its price point.
Lager isn't beer. Fact. Unless it is sub 4% and makes your farts liable to inspection by a UN team, it isn't beer. Woodford Wherry FTW.
Moretti do a set of regional varieties that are nice (they come over from Italy so they aren't cheap)
I made fish tacos for tea tonight. Got a few bottles of Sol to go with the Mexican theme. Jesus, your Peroni has nothing on that for shiteness!. I'd rather drink Carling. 🤢
It always used to give me a bad head too.
I like an Estrella now and then. Sol needs a lime imo.
Effes do some interesting bottles - their stout is memorable.
Moretti is always good as is Modelo , i also enjoy a Corona sometimes but my new favourite is Carlsberg Export which ive only just tried as normal Carlsburg is cat pi_s
Don't really drink lager but in the spirit of the thread.
Asahi and Kirin Ichiban are both pretty good (brewed by Sherperd's Neame I think)
Hop House 13 is pretty decent.
Not lager but Erdinger Hefewiesse and Franziskaner are very nice and refreshing on hot day and easy to find in most super markets. The alcohol free Franziskaner is possibly the nicest non alcholic beer I've ever tried too.
Here's a top tip, no decent beer comes in anything but brown bottles or cans - green and clear bottles lead to light shock and "skunked" beer. Anyone who is actually proud of their beer wouldn't put it in a green or clear bottle.
This doesn't mean all beer in brown bottles is good (far from it) but you won't find a decent beer in a green or clear bottle
A couple of hophouse 13’s go down very nicley,on hot sunny days, £2.79 from my very local Witherspoons, kept Icey cold, ideal mouth clag clearer👍🏼

I nearly agree. They are of course wheat beers. I drink a lot of Erdinger Alkoholfrei (£1.30 a bottle in Tescos) rather than Franziskaner - there's not a lot in it for taste but I think I prefer the Erdinger. It's been a great boon for dry January etc. Mysteriously you have to get age approval to buy these no/low alcohol drinks. I think Peroni tastes nice and is a safe default choice in a pub. I don't drink enough to worry about the price. Most lager brands are brewed all over the place and taste different depending on where they come from. I remember noting that when on a cross-channel ferry where the Heinken was French on the way out and Dutch on the way back.
