Looking for a new desktop. Not for anything other than internet, office docs and photos/music storage.

Is there any noticable difference between intel and AMD processors ?

Thanks.

Not unless you're a geek 🙂 If you're asking then you don't need to worry about it.

intel have better performance at the high end but theres a premium for that, at the lower end i'd probably go for an AMD as you get better value.

+1 for disco_stu - if you're on a budget go for AMD.

AMDs seem to run MUCH hotter, meaning more fans and louder PCs, if that's important to you.

I see things haven't changed at all then in the last 9 years since I was a PC technician.

Well AMDs used to run much cooler (or at least they did back when I bought mine) mainly due to the AMD Cool'n'Quiet tech, but it seems Intel have turned the tables on that one fairly recently.

I have an AMD Phenom II x3 processor in my new build. It flys. £74 well spent.

For what you want to do with it, it won't make the blindest bit of difference which you go for!
