Has anyone tried both? For a noob the points seem to be touchscreen (& aesthetics) vs battery life.
I can't say what will matter to me without using one. I am thinking notifications and navigating while cycling, bad happy to hear your experiences
having lost an hour to swearing at my original pebble refusing to connect this evening, Im finding it harder to recommend them.
Pebble seems to be the slightly nerdier choice and my friends who have them really like them. I've a pebble 2 on preorder
Anyone I know who bought an android watch or iwatch have sold them on for something else.
The Garmin fenix 3 is also another choice and does notifications well
Anyone tried a Withhings watch? Looks quite nice for a simple watch and has a real battery not another bloody thing to remember to charge.
I've had an original pebble and a pebble time for the last two years and I love them.
I've got a tan line on my wrist for the first time in my life aged 33, I just never take the thing off except to charge it twice a week.
@DrJ bought the Mrs a withings for her birthday today. Seems like a great piece of kit. Not seen how it syncs with the app yet, though.
Another one who has bought his better half a Withings (the Steel). She really likes it, espcially the fact that it looks like a watch
I'll basically echo what prawny said. Very happy with my Pebble Time. The only thing I'd like it's a slightly bigger screen which is exactly what the Time 2 is.
I've been a Pebble user for two years now. The screen on the first Pebble just went blank after 11 months so they gave me a new one.
Two weeks ago I caught the strap on something and the watch dropped about 3 feet to the ground - after fixing the strap I saw that the screen was flashing on and off and I couldn't fix it. That watch was 12 months old.
My watches never consistently connected to my phone (probably a phone issue).
I've given up on them.
Im currently looking at KW18 watch on eBay from China.
I just want a notification relay, time, calendar view and timer/stopwatch.
Some of the Fitbits are worth a look depending on what you want - no calendar Stoner but it does notifications. Mrs igm much prefers her Fitbit to the Garmin Vivosmart she had previously.
Me? I've got a nice automatic GMT.
Cheer igm, will go look

Let me see if I can find what the boss got, it lasted a week. Needed the stylus from his note to do anything as it was just a scaled down Android screen...
I have to admit that the KW18 looks not bad. It's a nice simple design and I guess can be configured in a pretty subtle way.
How did you get tipped off for that one Stoner?
I borrowed a friend's original Pebble for a week and was impressed, but just found it slightly limited.
In the end, I bought a second hand Sony Smar****ch 3, partly because I think Wear 2.0 and Allo messenger will make replying to texts via the watch super simple.
the fit bit is not for me. I really dont care about how much I wriggle in my sleep or how long Im sat on my arse. It's also v expensive.
I keep an eye on GearBest for electronic [s]chinese tat[/s] devices and saw a "review" vid that seemed to make it look not too rubbish. Im cautious though as I have a drawer full of obsolete chinese tat in my office desk.
When the pebble is working, I love it. I dont mind that its limited, it's limited to all the stuff I want it to do moreorless. Mine stayed connected/working well for a month or so, but it took a lot of swearing to get it to communicate with the phone first time, and then when it lunched its connection over the last few days, getting it stable again took more swearing and over an hour of fiddling. It seems to be back up and running again now. But I almost darent have the watch more than a few metres from the phone in case it freaks out again after a dropped connection.
I have a Pebble Time Steel and really like it. I found linking to Android (Nexus 5X) works all the time but connecting to iPhone loses connection and is tricky.
I really like the fact that I can just charge it once a week so don't need to take chargers etc when away for a few days.
Functionality wise, it does everything I need. Notifications for email, text, WhatsApp. Replying to messages, Strava integration, music player control. Health nonsense etc.
