2 new desktops with only 1gb memory, want to install more memory, however the desktops are still under warranty.
I know the warranty will be void if the side panel is removed and the seal is broken....my question is.... if its taken back to the shop where purchased, would the warranty remain intact if they upgraded the memory ?
Contact the shop see what their policy is?
crucial.com easily the best for all upgrades
The shop is PC World, does anyone know the policy on this sort of thing?
TBH, PC's are supposed to be "user upgradeable." I've not seen a case with a seal on it in a very long time (hell, even Time didn't do it), though if I'd to put bets on who'd suddenly decided it was a great idea then PCW would be fairly near the top of my list.
Are they actually sealed, or are you guessing? What brand?
Companies are no longer allowed to maintain warranty on a PC through one of those labels IIRC, phone the STORE (Not the help line) and ask!
PS. Crucial FTW for RAM.
Rysz.
Warranty prob only remains valid if PCW supply and fit the RAM.
PCW are the scum of the earth. IME.
PC World are actually pretty cheap for RAM if you buy it online rather than in store. I've always found the Crucial memory checker thing really inaccurate, its been wrong on both my desktops and my laptop.
PCW are the scum of the earth. IME.
+1
Never known a warranty to hold up on a pc anyway. Pretty much the only piece of electronics you buy that isn't covered. Corsair RAM used to be pretty good too as did Kingston but not had to buy any for years as I get mine 'free' so can't really comment.
