Its very safe the other person gets the money.

If you want protection for you don't use it (though seller may request you pay fees)

Erm.. you can't as far as I know.

If you are buying something from someone you should use it correctly so that you can get your money back if you need to.

People ask you to use PayPal gift so they avoid paying fees.

In my last dealings I said PayPal gift or add fees to total.

The sold price is the amount of money I want to receive regardless of payment method.

Why would you want to take back a gift? Have you fallen out with the recipient?

On the plus side, been using PP Gift on STW for years and never had a problem. On the minus side, the classifieds do seem to have attracted quite a few fraudsters recently....

What part of "gift" don't you understand? Sending money as a gift means that Paypal don't charge you for their role in getting it to the other person (isn't that nice of them?). Since they haven't charged you for doing this, why would they then want to get involved (at their cost) in getting it back for you?

Have you tried asking Paypal rather than random people on the internet?

Paying A Private Seller – Be Safe!

With all private sales you need to apply some common sense when arranging payment to another forum user. Paypal is the most popular method of making payment for a private sale but be aware that there are different services offered by Paypal with different associated risks. Sending a payment via Paypal is usually not cost free. Paypal take a commission from one party or the other. This commission payment does offer a limited amount of protection for the payer in the result of a dispute over the transaction. You can however, make a commission free payment by sending payment as a ‘Gift’. be aware that in the case of a dispute Paypal will offer no protection at all if you choose this method of making payment.

Unless you know and trust the recipient we strongly advise against using Paypal Gift as a way of making payment to a seller. Paypal Gift transactions offer NO PROTECTION in the case of a dispute over a sale.

as lifted from the classified rules, fees are a pain in zee butt , but they do offer the correct level of protection.

They do charge you they are not a charity but the sender pays not the receiver.

Its a strange world where you pay to have no protection or the buyer pays for you to have protection. Also read the T&C's rather than just clicking yes.

Oh dear.

It will serve as a good reminder for the good folk on here if they are thinking of buying something and paying by gift anyway.

Your use of commas is way too good for you to be from Nigeria. I think you might be trying to trick us here

I think I've just rumbled a scammer elling hope brakes on here
He dropped is price to my cheeky offer
And asked me to send paypal gift
But it didn't click till I asked if I can pick them up, then no reply
I'd just noticed he just put up 7 or so items for sale in the last hour
But now all his posts have gone

Sorry if your genuine mate

I'm pretty sure that Mr. Malonezz got hit with the Ban Hammer based on what he posted in another thread. The ban was much deserved!

Er, wrong. No charges involved with Paypal gift, not when I last used it a couple of months ago.
