I just sold mine. I know it's the style, but it squished everything a bit too much for me.

Most have a little slidey knob thingy on the side that both locks the lid down when not in use and also allows you to set the mimimum distance that the plates can get to each other. This allows you eliminate overly-squished sandwiches.

And shredded roast chicken, avocado and cracked black pepper FTW.

This is just about all we use the George Foreman grill for now. Provides just the right amount of squish for us, but if you need more just put something heavy on the top (bag of rice works)

Tuna / sweetcorn / cheese for me. Has to have cheese, a panini / toastie has to melt.

dip the outsides of the sandwich in beaten egg then fill with gruyere, ham, banana and creme fraiche.

or.. open cup mushrooms, garlic, butter and fresh parsley and dijon mustard
