what would possess someone with a functioning mind, to stand on the pavement outside a zoo and cheer and wave flags as a lorry containing 2 pandas drives past? what do they believe is the purpose of such behavior?

I really like coffee but I wouldn't cheer a lorry containing two sacks of beans hidden from view.

Indeed. I would've banged on the lorry shouting abuse at them, like they do when a serial killer turns up at the Old Bailey. And I would expect them to have blankets over their heads, to hide their shameful guilt ridden faces.

Fat lazy bastards.

I saw the trucks at Maybury junction, with their police outrider escort. Pandas apparently travel by FedEx - which is a relief, if it was CityLink all those folk waiting to see them would likely still be waiting while the pandas were stuck in some warehouse miles away awaiting despatch.

EDIT: Maybe I'm being harsh, I think CityLink have changed their procedures now - I think if no one was in at the zoo when they were delivered, they could have been left with a neighbour. I've no idea what FedEx would have done...

Can you expand on this please, I find it inflammatory, which I understand to be against forum rules, and your post has yet to be deleted.

Because some people need a little "awwwww" in their life, is that such a bad thing?

anyway, he's a picture of a panda in some tupperware which should invalidate your point

I get the aww factor, I get that a panda is an interesting 'cute' animal etc.

It's the concept of cynic-al* and his chums standing in the cold waving flags and cheering at a lorry that I failed to grasp. Hence the question.

*other big-hitters are available

iFail:

My point is: you imply that you are better than those people because of how you spend your time and how they spend yours...if you want us to agree and tell you how ace you are, you need to tell us how you spend your time.

I don't. They spend their day sitting on their enormous arses stuffing their fat greedy faces

cynic-al, are you suggesting you're better than me because of the type of threads you start?

No, this is not personal at all (unlike your jibe), it has nothing to do with me. it's about your OP, but all you can do now is deflect my question, which really means you've lost the argument. I said the below, stop trying to deflect the issue from my question please:

you imply that you are better than those people because of how you spend your time and how they spend yours...if you want us to agree and tell you how ace you are, you need to tell us how you spend your time.

I used to think Pandas, while cute, were a bit shit as a viewing spectacle (surely the most important reason for an animal existing) after seeing them in London as a kid and then again in San Diego as an adult. However earlier this year i was reluctantly dragged along to see some while in China and they were like a different animal - very playful and active.

Would be sad seeing them now just sitting doing nothing but eating and sleeping.

pandas are pretty crap really, they struggle to survive and thrive in the world because they're fussy eaters and they aren't very active because they only eat grass... they're even too lazy to procreate.

No, you assume I'm implying that. I have no idea what being 'better' than someone else involves. People can only be better at skills or tasks. I may have implied that they were a bit loopy. Which I can confirm I may well also be, though in areas unrelated to flag waving and cheering lorries.
