Steel garage door, paint flaking in parts, I’ve putting off doing it for 2 years but it’s going to have to be done soon.
I’m guessing:
Remove all lose paint, but leave the stuff that’s well stuck on
Sand it down
Primer
Paint

Sound about right?
Any good, hardwearing paints yiu recommend?

Sand back, I didn’t try very hard at this bit.
Sandtex exterior undercoat, two coats of exterior sandtex satin. Didn’t take long, where I didn’t sand very well you can see the old paint outline underneath but the new paint is solid over it.

If I was bothered I’d use a heat gun to strip the old paint properly first.

Been on there 2 years facing into the sun.

Did our daughters last week that looked like it hadn't been done in 30 years

Sanded of all the flaky stuff and smothed every thing down
Two coats of smooth Hamerite applied with a roller, tin said it didn't need priming. Looks 100% better than it did.

Ronseal one coat but used 2. Very little prep. Still on 5 years later.

Washed, hand sanded, applied one coat of Hammerite garage door paint, Went on really well and still looks same after about 5 years.
