Our IT contractors have seen fit to use Microsoft Exchange to deal with our emails. Unfortunately this has forced me to stop using Thunderbird (they won't support it and didn't bother to let me know that I could only use Outlook so I could send emails but not receive, cue 2 days of not receiving any messages.) Anyway it would appear that unlike Thunderbird, Outlook doesn't give you a running total of the size of attachments on an email. This was really useful as I send out lots of small attachments (product specs to customers) and some customers have small limits on there inbox sizes for attachments. (plus everytime I drag a file to the attachment pane in Outlook it switches to the message window, Thunderbird didn't do this) The question is, is there a way to have a running total of the size of attachments in Outlook? Cheers.

Which version of Outlook? 2007 has a column for total message size (alongside From/Subject/Date received) in the standard mailbox view on my PCs (work and personal). As you want to know size for messages you're composing, you should be able to see this in the drafts folder. You might need to adjust the width of the pane or possibly turn off autopreview I guess.

Failing that, right click the field titles at the top and open the field chooser - size is definitely an option there.

Thanks for the reply MrGreedy. Yes it's 2007. I forgot about the drafts, but it would be handy to have it on the same pane as my message and not a separate window.
