Will a shed be fine for storing camping gear?Â
We're clearing out our garage (for a conversion) and thinking of getting a bigger shed to store all our camping gear, bikes etc. in. OUr current shed always feels a bit damp and I'm worried stuff will perish in there.
Is my shed poorly ventilated / too cold? would a better shed (e.g. thicker timber, pressure treated) work better? I suspect that storing dirty gardening equipment and not keeping on top of the wood treatment may be contributing to the dampness, but there's no visible leaks.
I keep my surplus camping and outdoor gear in my workshop, it is a bit damp on frosty/cold days. The kit is all in plastic storage boxes with lids, so not exposed to the worst. It's all been fine for 2/3 winters.
There is some airflow, which helps. My main concern is very cold temperatures which can effect rubber materials like kayak cag seals.Â
I'd consider putting in some ventilation if there isn't any at present, or not sufficient.
One thing to consider is mice - they love nibbling and nesting in expensive outdoor kit and clothing, so plastic tubs are a good idea
