Good analysis argee - I guess against a team head and shoulders above the rest you play you need to compromise somewhat.

Chelsea v Real is a very good alternative to MasterChef.

It is! Is away goals still a thing, or do they need another?

Away goals don't count this season

Villarreal are employing the 7-3-0 formation

Real fans with their constant, incessant whistling is annoying though.

Ta! Been ages since I heard Hoddle commentating - forgot how wonderfully he comes out with such obvious shit with such a natural flow. 😂

Some game. How have Chelsea messed that up after getting back in the tie?! I almost feel sorry for them.

I'm not sure what I find most frustrating, Atletico's tactics or the refs impotence in dealing with them (for a second week in a row).

Atletico have taken the worst attributes of the dark arts of Italian defending and mixed them with 80s Wimbledon thuggery.

Its got very ugly in Madrid. Felipe having a real go at the ref for his second yellow, and Savic should have got a straight red for man handling Foden.

atletico should have had a few players sent of there. The ref allowed that to build throughout the match. I think city ended up with more cards than Atletico/

Poor performance by city as well, especially in the second half allowing them to stay in the game. Losing Walker and De Bruyne doesn't look good for the upcoming weeks.

@MSP - that's a bit harsh. Atleti kicked them all night. Llorente's push on Ake perfectly sums up the approach tonight - kick, scratch, hurt, cheat, try to damage the other team, harangue the ref etc etc etc

They're a disgrace and are the living embodiment of their nutjob manager

They/Simeone really have regressed and reverted to type. They’re far better than this! Remember them putting Liverpool out just before covid when they were flying.

Listened to it on the radio on a continuing long drive to Ireland. Chris Sutton was apoplectic, which was fun. Hopefully they'll be a new shithousery cup just for Atletico.

The 2 part Gazza documentary on iplayer is well worth a watch.

It’s tragic really. It showed what an absolutely sublime player he was (that ‘Dentists Chair’ goal against Scotlandshire in Euro 96) but he was clearly a very troubled bloke who was badly let down by those around him and exploited by many

I’d add to that that once you’ve watched it, if you didn’t despise Piers Morgan before, you will. I don’t know how the likes of him and Rebecca Brookes sleep at night.

It leaves you wondering if any of us would have survived the constant hounding, harassment and vilification that Gazza was subjected too without ending up an alcoholic

Apparently Burnley have sacked Dyche, hope that is getting reported wrong.

I can see that he has done everything he can for the club, and would understand them going their separate ways at the end of the season. But sacking him FFS he has performed miracles with the investment and squad at his disposal.

I’d not heard that! I hope it’s not true
We’re not far from Turf Moor and I spent a happy summer working their a few years back. It’s a fantastic club and Dyche is revered as deity in Burnley.

But remember that the club has recently had a Glazers style leveraged buyout by new American owners so it wouldn’t surprise me

EDIT: the BBC are reporting that he has been sacked. That’s an absolutely insane decision! There’s going to be uproar amongst the fans, who are realists and worship the bloke

I can’t see him being short of job offers

Absolutely mental…

https://twitter.com/burnleyofficial/status/1514899451097366530?s=21

I can see the club going the same was as Blackburn after their buyout by clueless owners

Madness to sack Dyche now. They have a reasonably easy run in compared to Everton, and who are they going to get who can transform them at such a late stage in the season. At least we (Leeds) sacked Bielsa with plenty of time to get a new manager in and implement a new playing style. Maybe Man Utd could appoint him as their new manager - at least you could be confident he would put all the Prima Donnas in their place. Sad day for football😕

Agreed. Can't see anyone better at getting a side scrapping for points in the last few games. Self-sabotage really.

Pathetic sending off in the West Ham game. Everything that is wrong with football. A mere hand off, player goes to ground.

Luckily it didn't matter: Eintracht Frankfurt in the semis. COYI.

Great performance by West Ham. Can’t see Rangers beating Leipzig in the other semi so hope they win it - be a good achievement and something to show for a good season.

Dyche sacking. What a joke - so extremely daft it may even result in STW consensus.

sounds like a game at Bramall Lane where the mighty R's are clinging on, then not clinging on, then clinging on again for three points!!

Particularly pleasing because I have an irrational hatred for Sheffield Utd, based on Neil Warnock, Keith Gillespie and Wally Downes back in 2006/7.

Irrational hatred of certain clubs is a weird one, isn’t it?

I hate Villa, which dates back to the Paul Lambert era where they would escape relegation, by the skin of their teeth, season after season, with a policy of putting 11 men behind the ball and grinding out spirit-crushingly tedious nil nil draws, week after week. If you had them next game you’d know you’d have a job on to stay awake for 90 minutes. I cheered when they finally relegated and hoped they would never darken the top tier ever again

Just think, Norwich could get off the foot of the table with a win at ManU today ;o)

As for Burnely, it's just weird they've sacked the man who is revered around the area, at least if they went down the board have the manager between them and the fans, now that's gone it'll be interesting, as for the leveraged buyout, it's not even near the same as the Glaziers, the Glaziers have actual funds and a fortune, the ALK lot seem to be out of funds from the buyout, they remind me more of the old lot that bought up rangers and asset stripped them out of existence.

Yeah, it was a big blow when we found out they barely had a few coppers to rub together, especially as we had spent the last ten years getting on a sound financial footing.

As for Sean Dyche, he is the best manager we've had in my lifetime. Two promotions, 6 years straight in the Premiership and European football, for ****ing Burnley!!!!!!! I would have loved to have seen what he could have done with 100m per season instead of the 15 - 20 he generally had.

sometimes as a goalie you have to put your boot through the ball.

From the side Pep picked it’s almost like he is trying to lose.

Man City are very flat today, think today shows one team that had quite an easy CL second leg and one that had a battle, pressing wise it's very unlike them, Liverpool are crushing them with the pressing.

Think ManC's line up summed up their intent today, to try and sneak a result, which isn't happening.

Hell of a half by Liverpool. Not getting the plaudits compared to the forwards but Thiago has absolutely run the show. Faultless.

It does look like Peps put out a team, knowing he can't have a full strength team so just making even more decisions based on protecting players for other competitions.

Even if he stuck with Stefan as his cup goalie, keeping Stones and Laporte as centre backs and having Ake as left back, plus Rodri as as DM would have made more sense if only thinking of this game.

I think Stefan is partly culpable le for all the goals, and just goes to show how much difference having Ederson's ability on the ball changes man city.

Some of it isn't just the personnel though, over the past few weeks to often citys defenders have been standing on the ball when passes have been available. Today that is just getting punished.

A bizarre starting line up from Pep. I’d forgotten that Nathan Aki existed. By the looks of it, so had he

You love it really. Was pleased that a fair few of Citeh’s fans took the suggestion to boycott the game seriously. Imagine having to shorten a minutes silence because some fans can’t help themselves.

How on earth are United in with a decent chance of fourth! Does anyone want it?

Who is the Spursiest of them all? There’s a few contenders this season..

Spurs are probably just edging it still

They may as well have a lottery for fourth.

We’re absolutely bloody awful and we’re still in with a shout, despite Harry Maguire’s best efforts

Think they gave Liverpool away next, Norwich should have had a goal or two more, that defensive performance was at home, against the bottom team!

It’s also showing the gap between the big 3 clubs and the rest, arsenal look useless again, Tottenham have no consistency and ManU are just a bunch of individuals trying to work as a team, so much potential, but no actual plan

I’m absolutely dreading Tuesday!

The form we’re on at the moment, we’re going to get absolutely battered. Jurgie could probably rest a good few players and put the kids out and still not have much to worry about. The gulf in class is vast!

I think I’ll have to delete all social meedya, change my phone number and hide in a cellar or something. They’re going to be absolutely insufferable!

ManU have the individual players who can turn a game like today, but Liverpool is a completely different thing on current form, you’ll not outwork them and they’re seriously focused on this one.

The worst bit for ManU next Tuesday is that a few Liverpool players are desperate to make a statement, Salah is after a goal, Firminho and Jota to show they should start, same across the positions, good luck!

The Liverpool squad right now is very strong, Klopp can make big changes and arguably still be playing a first team. And to think Jones, Gomez, Elliot, Origi have barely had a look in this season.
