With paracetamol and aspirin is they smell of vinegar then they have hydrolysed and will no longer be effective.

I wouldn't, ends up expensive when you realise all the strepsils, cough syrup, sterile dressings etc. all need to be slung out to.

How out of date? Thing with expiration dates is that the product is guaranteed to be good at least until that date, provided it's stored properly. It doesn't magically go bad at midnight on the last day.
We've used plenty of out of date ibuprofen and paracetamol with no issues, I wouldn't worry unless they are years out.
