Evening all,

As title suggests off out in Edinburgh on Saturday with a few mates, train from Dundee at 12:30, what’s the deal with Covid passports etc? Are all pubs asking for them? I have my jabs but haven’t gotten round to getting the passport yet. Will I be flung in the dungeons with the other peasants? Or are most pubs just glad to be open again?

It’s only takes 5 minutes to setup your covid passport, just in case.

Yeah I’ll do it tonight, but just incase some of the other don’t have it, don’t fancy trailing round Edinburgh in the cold trying to find a pub where we can get in.

We were out at the ballet last Thursday in Edinburgh city centre and went to have a drink after. The 3 places we went to turned us away at the door as at capacity. It felt like being 16 again.

We ended up just getting a taxi home in the end. It may be worth trying to book a table in a pub so you don’t end up just walking the streets trying to get in places like a teenager.

I think you only need the Covid Passport for clubs, so you should be fine in pubs until 11, maybe later.

You will need to book somewhere, pubs in Edinburgh have been rammed this year anyway staff shortages etc and the Christmas Market abomination is on in Princes street, work parties etc. Although I am sure TJ will be along in a minute to say how much better pubs are in Leith...

Although I am sure TJ will be along in a minute to say how much better pubs are in Leith… on The Shore

and he'd be correct.

No app needed for pubs.
Booking required though.

Though not in Bannerman's

I just tried booking for Friday night. Only place central I could get was Holyrood 9A early evening. Lots of places with no booking system set up or even a working website.

I certainly don't think anywhere else can match pub for pub.

ACH. I missed adding of the shore. I'd rather go Sofia's.

Sofias is long gone.

aye - plenty of good boozers down this way tho getting a bit to gentrified these days - malt and hops is still what it was 25 years ago tho

I tend to go to the roseleaf nowadays ( used to be the dirty duck)

Oh sHiTTING bALls.

Was it COVID? Getting smashed on cocktails and playing boardgames in some weird scandi diner was hard to beat.

I don't know - it was closed for ages now being reopened by the chap that runs the malt and hops

I always had the impression it was on a knife edge financially   Never seemed to find its niche

There will be 7 of us, I’m trying to be optimistic about just walking into pubs… but I can’t help thinking it will end up being a day walking round Edinburgh in the cold.

Well, all those places that don't take bookings, you might be alright. Expect it'll be busy though.

To bring a bit of hope to the thread!

7 of us were out for dinner on Friday just there. The table was pre booked but we were shown the bill and turfed out pretty soon after we finished our meal as they needed the table back which was fair enough

We walked up to Rose Street and got turned away from a couple pubs but eventually got in to the third pub we tried. Standing space only at first but managed to pounce on a table that cleared up and spent the rest of the night parked up there

Enjoy!

Ah the black swan. I got flashed by a hooker outside that boozer. Now that was a pub that only a brave non-local went in. Now it's all teacups and cocktails. Suits you tj 😄

Last time I was in it had Bitter and Twisted on tap - now that suits me well! 😉
