We will be in touch
Just had a rear molar extracted at Clarendons dentist in Leeds.
The dentist said it was the most difficult one he has ever done.
I am currently sat at home waiting for the 7 injections of novocaine and adrenaline to wear off.
I popped into Boots on the way home and pointed at my face and said in 2 hours I reckon this will hurt, give me what you can. She must have taken pity on me as she gave me co-codamol and a large box of ibuprofen.
The tooth had to come out in about 10-15 bits, it involved 20 mins of solid drilling, snapping bits off and pushing and pulling. The gum was also split open to gain access.
I am really not looking forward to the injections wearing off....
Get some whisky..
she gave me co-codamol and a large box of ibuprofen.
Rubbish - you want the proper stuff (like co-codamol, but with larger dosage of codeine relative to paracetamol, or the stuff like ibuprofen but much stronger). Can dentists not issue prescriptions?
Then again, the effort involved in removal isn't necessarily reflected in the pain levels later.
Jermome, did the whisky (Sainsburys Islay 12yr malt, nice) it stings like hell in the cavity, despite the novocaine. It feels like putting TCP on a cut!
Aracer, I have a box of 30/500 coproxamol left over from a rotator cuff injury 18 months ago. Thats my emergency option.
Currently my face looks like John Merrick.
try clove oil.
try MTFU 😉
Bruneep, havn't heard of MTFU, is it Highland or Speyside?
definitely definitely MTFU..
as far as dental horror stories go.. this one is pretty mild
cert PG.... 12 at a push.. like.. if you eat vindaloo crisps later
poof !
try having a abscess removed from a tooth root 🙄
Ah, the caring compassion of STW. Feeling better already.
Moving onto the Ibuprofen now. Still spitting out bits of tooth.
Try rubbing some salt on it 😯
Thanks sturmey, thats the last Dalby tickets I get you 😉
Novocaine wearing off now, starting to throb.
Apparently it's worse than an absess as with an absess all the pain is BEFORE the treatment, and the relief after treatment is immense. To get this tooth out the dentist had to cut the gum open, drill part of the jaw bone away and snap the tooth out bit by bit. All under shed loads of local anaesthetic. Still thought my jaw was going to come off though.
mend soon CHB
goog - try having a abscess removed from a tooth root
having had one removed from exactly such a place, I can tell you that it is much nicer than having the abcess there in the first place. Tastes a bit manky though 👿
Hat off to ya I haven't been to a dentist for a while cos the thought of having treatment worrys me too much.
Ouch!
I had four wisdoms out under local anaesthetic about 10 years ago.
12 injections (3 didn't work) that made me throw up violently.
One tooth was still not numbed properly.
The drill burnt my mouth badly.
The drill slipped into my tongue (under it) and was completely numb for three months.
I got a serious infection that flared up two days later - rushed to hospital.
I think maybe it was a labourer posing as a dentist that did it! And this was in the UK.
So sympathies!
Pics?
I had a similar experience, kept having to go back to the x-ray room to see if there were any more bits left.
Look on the bright side though, at least you don't have a hole that goes straight from your mouth into your sinuses. I wouldn't recommend it, makes drinking very messy.
Nasty! One of my back teeth started breaking up a couple of days ago. Off to the dentists next week for running repairs 🙂
Sounds horrendous,no funny quips from me.Hope it doesn't get infected.
I haven't been to a dentist for a while cos the thought of having treatment worrys me too much.
I was a bit like that and ended up having to have loads done - none of which was actually that painful at all. Definitely not recommended.
I still reckon 2 hours+ (I kind of lost count - the doctors were doing tag team so they didn't get too worn out) of facial stitches under local has to be worse than anything dental.
I don't think its infected, though there is some swelling on the jawline (my ample cheeks are more prominent than usual). Looking at the treatment site, a chunk of gum has gone that nasty grey/green colour.
Am taking amoxycilin and am now taking less co-codamol (costing me a fortune in prune juice to counteract the codeine).
Ouch, I still have a scar on my chin from where the big abscess under my incisors burst through the front rather than coming through the gums. I'd pop back early doors Monday if it's not a better colour by then. Large collection of pus collecting under your gum does not make for a nice week.
Had one of mine out 16 months ago - took an hour - loads of drilling and digging as tooth snapped. Roots bonded to jaw. Was alternating co-codomol and ibuprofen avery 3 hours for a week - plus nasty clove oil.
Had pain ever since and went back a couple of weeks ago... where he tried to remove more of the roots - again... another hour.... and he stopped when he said there we bits of jaw bone flaking as he was trying to prise bits out... 🙁
He prescribed me some 600m? ibuprofen as I left... so I knew it was goign to hurt...took 2 weeks for the throb to stop - but now seems a bit better - and once the stitches were removed - I can now eat on that side of my mouth...
I hate dentists....
Ok Chalkstorm, you win. What I have had done sounds like the full fat version of my treatment.
I am trying to phase out the co-codamol today as it messes with my head if I take it too long.
I sympathise loads after having two teeth pulled our recently, the pain before hand was mind bending (two infected teeth) but afterwards it was worth it. I found mixture of whisky, salt water mouth washes kept all the gunk out of the mouth, ice cubes on the gum helped loads to kill the pain, better than pain killers.
I had all 4 wisdom teeth plus a crumbling molar removed in one go at the dentist - but under a general. Pain was ok later on. Worst bit was trying to stop sticking my tongue into the huge holes I had. That was the bit that made me feel sick 🙁
I've a wisdom tooth and a molar at the back of my mouth both of which have descided to hate me at exactly the same time, I've had two courses of antibiotics 1x amoxy & 1x metronizole and its still sore, if I have them removed I'll have no teeth to bite down on the left hand side and (queue above horror) if I have them filled then its double root canal horror which is bound to explode/reignite on the saturday of a bank holiday weekend!! oh the humanity!!
I had 4 wisdom teeth removed in one sitting, couldn't open my mouth any more than the width of a crisp for a week and the lower part of my face was hulk green. I was told to gargle regularly with salt water and if a clot of one of the cavities came off then I was supposed to put something in my mouth and bite down to make the cavity bleed again and form another clot! How the hell I was going to do that I have no idea.
Just as I was able to open my mouth again I got the worst case of tonsillitis I have had. Still,OK now apart from when I swim for more than half an hour when my lower jaw goes completely numb .....
Just found myself watching dentist videos on youtube 😕
I love t'internet..
