5 pages in 5 hours. Fastest thread ever?

he was a wierdo but his contribution to music was unarguable

on the plus side i bet Gordon Brown is moon walking across his office, can't see MP's expenses being in the news much for the next week!

Similar to what previous poster said - I think it's just great that I will forever remember exactly what I was doing when I found out MJ died.

Diana - In Edinburgh popping out to get the Sunday paper

John Peel - Listening to the radio while doing PhD fieldwork on Thursley Common

9/11 - Installing a new fish in my aquarium

MJ - Being a sad loser / noob on a geeky and fairly socially inept MTB forum.

TBH I find it actually quite a relief (for him) that he's gone. Poor guy, never really seemed all that happy, did he now..?

I'm sick to the back teeth of all the hand wringing, tributes and insights into 'his life', already, FFS! I dare say Glasto will be awash (see what I did there?) with badwagon jumpers proclaiming how wunnerful he was, from the Pyramid stage. Have a feeling a certain Mr Young might not be one of 'em, mind.

Those of you defending him in relation to never actually being convicted in court of being a kiddie fiddler WAKE UP!
It was his fame that got him off the hook in court, he was without a doubt a very very strange man, admitting to having boys in his bed and countless witness statements of boys going up to his various hotel rooms when he was away from home!

In my eyes he was 100% guilty and we can do without monsters like him, his death is no loss to society and the newer generation sadly don't see that, good riddance!

No telly or radio for me today then - I can't stand the 'gushing' on these occasions.
When I read it last night I thought 'Wow', but that's about it. Liked a couple of songs but didn't like the great majority and he was just weird.

Well, I turned in the telly this morning and wasn't surprised to see the only story was dead Jackson. But imagine by shock and horror when there on the screen, invading MY home, was Uri ****ing Geller. God that thing is almost more of a freak than whacko was. Can't stand him.

Aparently he did manage to whisper a short message to the paramedics on his way to hospital....."Put me in the childrens ward"

They can finish rest of the cremation on him now.

Nah! They are going to recycle him into 10,000 Tesco carrier bags.

I shall NOT be taking a radio to the Lakes.

Has the man never heard the Please Let Your Son....... gag?!

his contribution to music was unarguable

I think it was. One stellar album that outsold the next best selling album about four times over, but everything else was average IMO.

"average IMO" - that's why the 50 shows were sold out because his music and performance was only average - DOH!!!

Its out of mild curosity that I keep coming back to this thread...to see how distasteful its going to get before its closed.

I enjoyed his earlier music and his 'best of' album is one of the few CDs in the car that the family can agree on to listen to.

i always find it bizzare that people respond in such a way that that will be these coming weeks to someone they never knew.......

Well said that post! Having lost someone very close to me this year (dad) I couldn't possibly be in the slightest bit upset at MJ's departure.

"average IMO" - that's why the 50 shows were sold out because his music and performance was only average - DOH!!!

Some people are easily fooled. He made a career out of one good album.

mastiles_fanylion - I also lost my Dad this year in March so please accept my condolences.

I still maintain that his music contribution meant a lot to loads of people. Maybe it's the separating of the man from the music that's the real issue.

Last night I was wondering if there would be any kind of drugs involved, that could have led to this, and today's Daily Mail is reporting he was addicted to painkillers and that his personal doctor was with him at the time of his cardiac arrest, having given him a huge injection. Obviously that story has to be treated with caution, but doesn't sound too good really.

As for Uri Geller, I feel sorry for him too. He too has an interesting story about his earlier years, before he became a celeb with all that spoon bending, but hey ho.

He wasn't going to do all those concerts anyway.

He said he wasn't coming to the UK when he found out the '£2000 for a 10 year old' actually referred to the car scrappage scheme......

Sorry to hear that 🙁 It is an indescribable feeling isn't it?

The single most destroying thing about it is seeing my poor mum flounder. We are trying our best to keep her occupied but she is hurting. 🙁

Noone think it could possibly be the most extravagent publicitiy stunt, and he'll be "reincarnated" for his tour? Its the sort of the thing MJ would like...but perhaps to far out there.

mastiles_fanylion - I have exactly the same with my mum. If I don't pop round and see her every day she starts falling apart. Because I was made redundant at the same time at least I can do this but when as and when she's coping better I'll make sure that there's not been a dependency created.

Yes it is difficult - fortunately the three of us (her three adult offspring) all live closeby (my kid bro' still lives with her when not working away) and we have just had two beautiful twins which are helping take her mind off things, but you can just see her mind wander off and find dad again every so often 🙁

I lost my dad very suddenly two years ago and mum is still getting to grips with it. That first summer I tried to do all the little jobs I could for her which turned out to be a bad thing as she wanted to do loads of stuff herself otherwise she felt useless.
They say time's a great healer but I'm not sure you can fix losing the person you've been married to for 52 years.
Life really sucks sometimes - you try and spend your life with one person but someone is always left alone at the end of it.
Keep an eye on her and try and get her doing stuff (anything really) to help the days pass. We've got three girls under 9 (inc twins) and they mean the world to mum - your kids will be great medicine.
It will get better for you all but it never really goes away.

I wonder whether the people who told him to 50 concerts were possibly to blame, 50 acts of an already ill artist would cause a lot off stress leading to a heart attack.

Erm no! The first album he released was Off The Wall when I was a youthfull 16 years of age. There's not a bad note on that album. An album that never become tiring and is packed with hits.

Quincy Jones made Jackson's productions flawless - QJ THE most successful record producer of all time (check out the facts online).

MJ was a genius writer and performer. I saw him live at Wembley and frankly, the showmanship was dazzling. Highly charismatic! He deserved to be the success that he was due to his talent!

A troubled soul and much maligned in recent years, an emotionally damaged shy person off the stage, very eccentric and stupidly naive in many respects.

I guess if you are too young to have experienced the development of this legend and his music, or just don't like the style of music, or believe everything you read in a news paper, you might not think this is a big deal.

I do agree that the news channels are overdoing it though. BBC News 24 always get "stuck" and exclude all other news. I've complained to them a few times about this. I recommend you do the same. They might then listen.

From a good piece in the Guardian...

Michael Jackson was a hugely talented individual – even more, dare one say it, than Diana. He also led an unquestionably sad and damaged life. But his death shows up, even more clearly than (Jade) Goody's did, that the desire for collective emotion leads only to false emotion.

If your honest with yourself though it is up there in fact probably more important. Everyone knew of michael jackson.

people are mentioning it in the same sentence as 9/11 which whilst being quite insulting to those people, this will receive as much if not more news coverage than that disaster.
