I've ordered some stuff from the USA, very good price compared to UK prices. Total order cost was about £135.00

What am I going to get hit for with VAT/Import Duty / handling charges etc. Anyone got stung recently :-O

that should be within personal import limits so just vat + handling

probably VAT on anything above £8 and then £4 Royal Fail handling charge.

Is the handling charge from RM withing the UK, not from the international courier?

How do you pay for the charges, do they want cash on the doorstep or do you have to go and collect at a depot/sorting office and pay before getting the item?

if you're in a hurry, as soon as you see it's in a local depot and awaiting payment, you can call them and they let you collect before you get the letter

Varies wildly depending what it is. There's a website that tells you - I'll dig it out in a bit.

Royal Mail pay mr Tax man for you and then charge you and you have to pay them to collect.

sometimes i think they just think of a number and double it when it comes to import duty.
