I have had some invitations to be part of Linked In. As far as I can tell it is Facebook but for business contacts. Now to be frank I've never got on with Facebook so remain sceptical about Linked In.
Any stories - good or bad - to help me make up my mind about it?

Pretty much what you called it, Facebook for business. Handy if you change jobs reguarly.
It's good for keeping in touch with ex work colleagues without any effort.
You know the sort - not really friends, but people that may help you into a good job at some time in the future.
Well worth it as many job openings are never advertised, so having a big network of contacts can help a lot.
I've been approached with job offers a few times from being on LinkedIn.
Depends what work you do and how often you (and people you keep in touch with professionally) change jobs. If you're looking for work and want to target a particular company it's a great way of finding a friend of a friend who works there and might be able to help get your CV in front the right people.
I use facebook for people I know personally, linkedin for people I work with and try to avoid any crossover between the two.
I don't know if it's because I have "recruitment" as one of my skills but I found there was a severe limit to what I did on LinkedIn unless I upgraded to premium, and then they wanted a huge fee. I tried to revise my entry, but it wouldn't let me do it so I deleted my profile. Can't say I miss it much.
I use it (cv is up there) and I do get occasional job queries via it.
Worth it for free.

+1 avoid all work people on Facebook.
