Open wheels always carry that risk of launching. Like it says on the tickets "motor racing is dangerous" but the work to counter that danger has saved many lives.

They all need Halo devices before the next race.

Open wheels always carry that risk of launching.

That "Launching" just saved two guys lives!

Luckily, the rear of a formula car, is pretty sloped, and the engine and transmission form a natural ramp. Had the second car impacted that stationary car and stopped, rather than being simply projected into the air, neither of those drivers would have walked away.......

Wow!. Great testament to the bravery of the drivers and the genius of the people that build in safety protection

F3 cars have come a long way since I used to watch them at Oulton Park in the early 90's, both in terms of speed and safety. Expensive crash.

Does going across the gravel normally kick up that much dust? You could see it was going to happen on the video, but it must have been a hell of a shock to the poor guy who ran into the back!

From Autosport

The Carlin team issued a statement on his condition, saying: "Peter is undergoing treatment for multiple broken bones in his heel, which will require surgery in the near future.

"Peter has also been diagnosed with four fractured vertebrae, which do not require surgery.

"While suffering with bruising and other small injuries, Peter is alert and speaking with team personnel."

I dare say there's an absolutely ruined set of overalls as well

😯 Christ on a pogo stick! That was one hell of an impact, must have been an almighty shock to the poor sod who suddenly found a dust cloud stuffed with car right in front of him. Interesting watching the driver who was hit get out of the car and sort of run to the side of the track, then suddenly collapse after some seconds as the delayed shock hit him.
Glad neither are too seriously hurt, and as others have said, a testament to the strength of modern racing cars.
