Now, GB vs NZ woman football.
What a surprise, is it a sign of things to come?
Not being funny but but what stadium are they in?
Without being sexist is there the biggest demand for female football in NZ.
You often see the women's FA cup final in this country and the stadium is half empty even at a 40,000 capacity.

I'd expect 'normally' women's international football games are played to less than half full stadiums?
it's already been admitted that there's a lot of unsold football tickets for the more, errm, esoteric matches.
On the basis of a random women's footy match half filling it, i anticipate most other sports being packed.
Millenium stadium, cardiff.
Shirley Olympics razzmataz is the same wherever, whatever the event?
Or maybe shite ticket administration shambles is reaping its rewards.

"Right dear we had a choice, mens 100m final at the Olympic Stadium or GB women vs NZ in Cardiff. I've gone for Cardiff"
Team GB football is a sham in itself, hope the men get humped each match (just to see the look on Pearces face).
I'm sure the proper Olympic sports will almost see full houses.
I thought everything had to happen in London...
What a surprise, is it a sign of things to come?
No ... Don't be a clown... It's Ladies football.
Did you not hear.. You can't get ticket for the MAJOR events for love nor money.
The vast majority of stadium/arenas will be packed, with people enjoying themselves.
So millennium stadium half full isn`t a bad turnout really!
It's football. It's the olympic games.
Nobody cares enough for footy at the lympics and certainly not in south Wales, so mooly +1!
Try getting velodrome tickets.....

<sighs>
I don't understand how you can start before the opening ceremony.
Did someone get the dates wrong, or is it just so unimportant no-one cares?
Going to Brazil v Egypt tomorrow and have had a ticket upgrade because of poor sales
I know people who had 2 tickets to attend the Cardiff football today and who had at some point been very keen to go, having bought the tickets ages back.
They decided last week that they would no longer attend.
This decision was brought about by receiving several official emails that they considered to be very unfriendly in tone and also inconsistent in instructional content.
An example,
At some point they were told it was OK to bring bags in which to carry cameras, clothing, bits and bobs. Shorty after they had another email which said that people should NOT bring any bags even though it was 'permitted' as if they bought bags, they would be UNLIKELY TO SEE ANY FOOTBALLL AT ALL.
Although they had been told to arrive 2 HOURS before the start of any match, the emails said bag searching queues would be so long that the matches taking place AFTER the already 2 hour long wait, would be over before the bag searching had been completed! This was an official email!
Also there have been the inconsistent photography rules, where people are 'by instinct' supposed to know what valuable equipment will be confiscated and never seen again, despite the endlessly changing published info on whats allowed.
To finish it off, the people who cancelled attending today are sick to death of the sponsors being more important than anything else about the event and no longer wish to support how the Olympics are being run or presented, and of the G4s farce/safety issues and of the politicians this week claiming things being this bad is quite normal.
Personally, I fully understand why 2 more empty seats were left in the stadium.
I am going to Old Trafford on Sunday to see the football, not even England. I might have a whole row of seats all to myself 😀

football has to have 2 days between matches if they dont start early they finish after the 14 days of the tournament which i assume is worse...they always do this.
FWIW the game had the highest attendance for a female match in the UK
The last women's world cup had an average attendance just over 26,000. Today's matches in the group stages looked to have between 20,000-40,000. So, yes, I would say it is a sign of things to come: record attendances expected in nearly every sport.
The stadium isn't half empty, it's just twice the size required for the number of spectators watching the match.
10-15,000 or at Hampden - despite them handing out 35,000 tickets.....
OLYMPIC WHINING WIN!!!
yes but the pubs and chippies were open ...what did they expect
I'm more of a stadium half full kinda guy.....
I'd go and watch some of the matches at Coventry, but I can't be arsed with the faffing around as reported up there, and they still want £20-£40 a ticket!

So it will finish 12 days after then?
No they finish before the games finish but only because they start earlier.
I'm a confirmed olympics sceptic/cynic - but I think claiming that's a half full millenium stadium for women's football is somehow an 'epic fail' is a bit of a stretch.

You are forgetting that people will grasp at anything to have a go at stuff that's "popular" like the Olympics.
Being right doesn't come into it, it's all about the "Olympic Whinge"
That's what really matters 😉
Going to Brazil v Egypt tomorrow and have had a ticket upgrade because of poor sales
Excellent! What are you going to see instead?
Seriously, let's have as sense of perspective, it's football, it's women's football, it's in Cardiff.
I'm a big sports fan, and in favour of the Olympics but if someone gave me a ticket to that I wouldn't have gone.
Come to think of it, if someone gave me a ticket to the England men's football I wouldn't go to that either.
Actually (thinks of Bend it Like Beckham) I'd rather go and see the sweaty ladies !
Quite impressed that 30,000 people turned out to watch women's football, actually. I've seen it much emptier than that with rugby on.
I'd have gone if I'd been at home and had no kids 🙂
Molgrips is spot on... Instead of going "It's not full therefore it's a failure", look at how many people actually turned up.
They could have been smarter about the stadiums to be fair, they've gone for big prestige locations rather than fitting them to the events and spreading them around better.
Cardiff is a good venue though - easy to put up a lot of visitors there, and give them something to do in the mean time.
on the news now, half empty stadia.
All empty seats should made available within 30mins of start of session, £5 each, first come first served. thats £5 more than the seat would have earnt and , more importantly, an experience for a spectator and support/atmosphere for the participants.
