I'm still using Quicken from about 15 years ago - although it does the job I'm sure I could do better and I could do without the worry of my 'puter blowing up and not being able to re-install.
So does anyone have a recommendations for a fairly basic but reasonably cheap online service that links to a bank account?
Don't need payroll but do need VAT.

Have a look at Xero. If you're already a Quicken user you will pick the system up quickly as it is similar. You can add various modules on as and when you need them. Speak to your accountant who may already be using it in which case they can probably reduce the monthly fee.

I still use Quicken too! for the Mac which makes it awkward to migrate, as none of the others really seem to cut the mustard. Backups 🙂

Freeagent has been really easy to use - does everything you want it to do.

Nolapro is free and extemely powerful. Takes a bit of fiddling to get it out of Merkan mode though and whilst it can cope with VAT it does not automatically generate HMRC returns.

If you use Quicken then QuickBooks Online (Intuit also) may be the obvious choice though. Not too expensive either and has an iOS and Android app.

What do you need to use it for? Kashflow is good if you don't need stock control, but when I used it, there was no stock module, so it wasn't great for the company I was working for...

I use quick books online which is easy and links to my bank accounts. The help line is also very good if needed. I find a cloud program really useful as it is accessed from several locations and my accountant can view it too

Thanks guys. Currently got trials of Quickbooks [currently £7/month] and Quickfile [free] going.
Quickbooks looks nicer but I'm not sure about the limited categories - but I may be missing something.

Try Freeagent then.

Ohh hang on.

Some have too many features, others not enough.

No pleasing some people.
