Currently working on a paper involving Housemann's research into the effects of violence in the media on violent behaviour in society.
As the latter is obviously not a new phenomenon, is there a pattern of violent depiction in popular literature, theatre, vaudeville etc throughout history that might back up Housemanns theory?
Any specific examples would be most helpful.
The followers and cultists of Draco (as in Draconian) and also Dante's admirers used the media of the time, their tacit and overt suggestions of violence causing others to follow? You may be able to extrapolate accordingly. Also underground Manga from early 19th century to present day has always been suspected of instilling copycat violent behaviour.
Might be worth a poke.

Have a listen to the podcast of this week's Start the Week. I caught the beginning where Marr was interviewing Shelagh Stephenson about her new play, Enlightenment.
I could have sworn, as I switched of the car, that Marr invoked Houseman at that point. Might be worth checking to see if that's correct and, if so, what she had to say about it.
Oh, and I'm amused that your research for your paper has begun with STW..!
For yuour next piece, try writing about the influence of the middle-aged IT managers on arts and social science research and whether this now comprises a Kuhnian revolution.... 😉
😆
Yeah, yeah, I meant Hisley, I get the two mixed up. I was lurking in the trees way above you. More moor in the sun in a bit 🙂
