So I was just handed a box by my mum containing my childhood transformers! These will be 1985-1990.

Funny thing is, my 3 year old thinks he's going to be allowed to play with them!!!

Don't do it!

I had 3 from the early 80s 100% complete.

Thanks to G-1 all the parts are missing and they are broken 🙁

Not happy about it at all,but still have the broken bits.

Nice collection by the way 😀

Mint, have you got all the bits to combine the Aerielbots into Superion? Think I can see a foot & maybe a hand!

The robot form of Ultra Magnus was very disappointing (not the white Optimus Prime clone on its own, but when that was inserted into the trailer (only the arms moved)).

Few classics in there!! No idea where all mine went from the late 80s, I have only a broken Grimlock to show for them!

In terms of the quality of the toy, it was hard to beat Jetfire.

Nice!

What's the tornado/jet called with the red wings? I had that. Though I was more of a star-wars kid tbh.

In the same vein as the Antiques Roadshow, are they worth anything?

I think they are only worth 'serious' money if you have the packaging, and all accessories.

Yeah, my mum dug out my original Transformers last year for my kids, took my eldest (then 5 years old) all of 20 minutes to snap a leg off Optimus Prime. He was complete, with trailer, buggy, gun and missiles too. 😥

My buddy Hua has a transformers fansite and web shop at http://tfs-express.com and it has some pretty special limited editions and protypes on there.

The forums are full of useful information and most likely some approximate values for the items above.

Is disappointed. Was expecting to see some steam punk style Victorian sub stations and the like 🙁

I sold all my G1 stuff before we moved in 2009ish. I was an AFOTF 😀 Still have all the 80's cartoon DVDs (Japanese as well) 😀 The fact they made up a Middle Eastern country called carbombya still makes me chuckle 😆

Snap a leg off your mum as punishment. It's only fair as she's old enough to know better...

Was home sorting my parents loft in March...
I've a boxed ultra Magnus amongst others. A bunch of a team, star wars, he-man, those painted diecast britians figures.. aliens and cowboys.. put it all back and will see if it's worth anything in another 10 years as I couldn't be bothered to eBay that stuff.
Gave my kids my micro machine collection and that's all broken or lost

I reckon if you want to sell toys like this you should do it now while the 80's kids are currently in their 30s and 40s earning good money and willing to pay for nostalgia items. Another 10-20 years we'll be possibly earning less and those in their 30s won't even know what the toys are let alone want to buy them!

I'm not after selling these anyway. It's impossible to explain the way it feels to see and play with them again, little snapshot back to childhood and it's amazing!

Most of these have date stamp 1987 on them. I forgot to put superions head on but it is here.

Ps I LOVE the heat stickers!

These were also in the box but I can't remember what they are called. I do remember watching the cartoons. Anyone?

Hmm, not sure. They are not zoids. Don't think they are Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors either. Possibly R.A.T.S (Robot anti terror squad)? Not sure.

Also, I told you the Ultra Magnus robot was disappointing! You have a production error version, where the face was not painted silver. Not sure if that means it is worth more or less. Probably doesn't matter without the packaging.

could be the zoids cosmic stuff, vaguely remember it, and the figures and pods are very zoid like,

OP you need to sort their guns out, it is doing my nut. Is it weird that I can hardly remember anything I learnt at school/uni but still have it indelibly etched on my memory which weapon goes with which Transformer 30 years later? 😆

Also put Superion's feet on (big flat things), poor bloke is gonna topple over!!

I only had a couple of transformers but played with my mate's ones a lot. I remember them being a lot better quality than modern ones which don't fit well together and bits fall off. I this just nostalgic memory?

No, the original run of Transformers toys were incredible - metal & plastic, very detailed, great transformations. They were originally Japanese toys from a manufacturer called Takara which Hasbro bought the rights to and then basically rebranded & built the Transformers cartoon around. Although later Transformers were also made in collaboration with Takara there was obviously some rushing/cost cutting as they got progressively more shit.

Yes it really is the fine detail that amazes me... at the time I took it for granted, and I'm sad that my kids are highly unlikely to have access to toys like this any more.

I used to have a great collection like this too, I do wonder where it went, might go ask the parents later.

Several years ago I picked up all the OG cartoons and movie on DVD, watched the cartoon movie (I hate you Michael Bay) and they haven't seen light for years.

I got super excited when I went to Santorini this summer via small planet airlines as there in flight entertainment had OG transformer cartoons on it!

The interesting thing is, why I was a kid and collected Transformers, my Dad thought they were rubbish!

this is what I remember. I had a Decepticon plane and I remember the solidness of it.
my son has a few of the modern 1/2/3 step tranformers and some of the movements don't close properly meaning they just spring back. and it's not like they're cheap either.

You got the touch, you got the POWA!

I believe I've seen the video where he uses that top accessory...

@angeldust, I had some of those as a kid but no clue what they were called, mine was frickin awesome actually, a battery powered tank thing with clip on wings and guns and that.

Do you think the guy that designed Galatic Man had been watching Robocop the night before?

The hero we need...

This is the one I had

[img] [/img]

I especially like that the box art looks so much like a cheap tool kit

Bought it in the scaffy toy shop in the wester hailes market, we used to get loads of remaindered crap, random hooky imports and stuff in there for peanuts, some of it'd be pretty collectible now- a load of cool robotech kits especially. Random nonsense like Matchbox Roadblasters, Starcom and things like that, great shop

There we go! No I was mistaken with the cartoon thinking they were jace and the wheeled warriors.

The wee kinetic motors still work and have such a unique sound!

TFFT!

Well done Mattstreet and Northwind!

Multi-Mac is not one I am familiar with, so I guess I learned something via this thread (might be useless info, but I still learned something)....
