Who's getting involved? Who can't be ars*d with any of it? And who'll be bringing a fire extinguisher along?

I think one of my mates is ferrying it across water.

That sounds difficult! I'm torn between ignoring the whole farce or bringing a fire extinguisher along, if I could be ars*d to ride a few miles to make the point.

The Olympics: a sporting experience for people who think sport is watching the telly.

If it comes past my house I'll make sure I'm out riding my bike on Cannock Chase

There will be saturation coverage of the relay on the BBC, no one will be allowed to escape this pointless act of national masturbation...

I'm going to rent my flat out (very close to Lympic site) for a ridiculous amount of money, and go on holiday abroad. 😀

Win-win!

Have tickets for the mountain biking and am quite excited about the whole thing to be honest so I'm going to pop down and have a look.

Don't understand all the moaning really, it is happening, might as well enjoy it.

Carrying a giant zippo around the country. What part of that is supposed to be interesting?

I'll watch the olympics, the competition will be among the finest you will see anywhere. The marketing, political points scoring, sponsorship, cultural olympiad, legacy projects, torch relay, corporate tickets, just generally the business of the olympics I'd rather avoid as it just makes me feel jaded towards the sport.

And let's not forget the oppressive security, the special olympic infrastructure that will go to waste and weeds once the games are over, the locals being excluded from 'their' games, the social dislocation involved in creating the olympic venues, the waste of resouces that could have been better used in the community without the artificial forcing of a deadline...

......and I'm going to tell HMRC So you can pay the appropriate tax on your non earned income, reducing the burden on the tax payers. 😉

I've already thought of a way round that, Bruneep... 😉

What? It's avoidance, not evasion. I'm doing nothing illegal...

Lord Coe on Radio 4 this morning: "if the flame goes out we will relight it"

Presenter: "but then it won't be a continuous flame carried all the way"

Lord Coe: "if it goes out, we will relight it and it will be a continuous flame".

Presenter (in my mind): Lord Coe, you are a horrid tory slime ball.

Not sure a shrug of the shoulders and pleading ignorance will get you very far, worth a try tho.

It's stopping off here overnight there's a few things that they're planning so if I'm off I'll take my kids along to see. I carried the common wealth torch through this area when was about 12. I've little interest in sport but seeing part of an event that may not happen again I will get involved in.

Ermm..

So it's the "London Oly's" yeah.. So why go around the country with the torch when the vast majority of places have no input into the Games themselves.. the Isle of Wight for instance.. Is there anything going on over there that we don't know about? ermmmm Nope... Then why make the effort of carting a lit flame on a ferry over there.. Are they expecting to light lots of fags??
Pointless.

Keep it to within the realm of the centres holding the events. And full on "tosh" to those who think "public engagement" is the key to success.

...and that large chunks of public money in the Lympic Boroughs are being spent on all kinds of junkets for various dignitaries while local services are being slashed/people made redundant, etc. I know for a fact that Newham council has taken staff out of already understaffed projects and services, to deal with Lympic Matters rather than what local taxpayers are actually paying for.

And that Tower Hamlets, once 'promised' 4 events to be held in the borough, now has none. The last of those, the Marathon, was to be held through the borough and to the stadium, but apparently due to 'security reasons' will now be held on a closed loop in the City, where access will only be available to those paying for extortionately expensive tickets. Funny, the 'security' excuse, cos we have the World's largest marathon running through our borough every single year...

Oh, and stuff like the velodrome will not actually be very accessible to locals (or indeed many people), as far as I gather, because you will need to be a club member of an affiliated organisation to get anywhere near the track. I can't imagine a full sized Lympic swimming pool is going to be very 'affordable' for many locals. As for the main stadium, well, they can't even decide what to do with it.

Still, we've got a s****y new Westfield shopping centre which won't of course push loads of existing businesses out cos they can't afford the rents, oh no. Like, what the area needs, rather than decent jobs, hospitals, educational facilities etc, is designer label clothing stores...

I'd be quite happy for the whole lot to be blown up on the eve of the games* tbh...

*With of course no loss of life)

I love how, in an effort just to get near people (rather than celebrate the whole of the UK), the torch will go through each county of England, but only each local authority area of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland....

Is it coming at the weekend or are you taking him out of school?

It's coming within a couple of hundred metres of where I'm sitting right now (if I go upstairs I should be able to see it from the window). Won't be taking my older son as he's in school that day, and it will be passing by the school gates, so I suspect they'll be out watching (it was on the school timetable when they knew it was just coming to the general area, rather than on the road past the school).

The government has confirmed it has bought 8,815 tickets for the London Olympics, at a cost of nearly £750,000.

The Olympics are in England, rather than Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland though. If you want devolution, **** off and get your own farcical ceremony 😉

We had the official Olympic Torch prototype at our office recently.

Just think: the opportunity to see and touch something that isn't the olympic torch! 😕

I could hardly contain myself.

🙄
