If there is one thing ive learned over the years its that if you have a question on any subject the Singletrack collective usually have an answer.....

so, ive been struggling with an ongoing injury that is threatening the future of my mountainbiking which means im looking at potential short term and possibly long term alternatives. With that in mind does anyone have any experience with these offroad e-scooters? the ones ive been looking at boast over 100mile range and speeds of over 50mph which sounds like fun and probably a stepping stone to a hospital visit.

not sure how well they will likely ride and/or how the forestry people will likely react to one of these things being ridden around their woods, obviously at sensible speeds?

they look fun but the reality may be much different.

the alternative is just more motorbikes and i quite fancy an electric trials bike, but unfortunately there is nowhere legal to practice within an hour from home and only two venues in total and trials surprisingly arent that frequent here, maybe one a month.

so....offroad e-scooters...any good or just a dud?

With that range/speed they’d presumably fall under the rules for electric powered motorbikes rather than ebikes?

Sounds like an electric motorbike so only allowed on roads, 'green lanes' etc. plus needs licence, insurance etc. unless on private land like a motorcross club.
If not registered, insured etc. or private land then expect police to confiscate it and a large fine and points or loss of driving license. Forestry will likely call the police.
Off road motorbike clubs with tracks are all over and I'm sure would love new members. Motorcross looks fun.

starting to sound like a good idea in principle but as usual thwarted by the UK's boundless ability to frown on anything that looks like it might be fun... one of the reasons i gave up green laning on the dirt bike...and if i had local access to an MX track i wouldnt be looking at these, unfortunately the local fun police had their way and my only local MX track was closed down

About as legal/welcome as electric MX bikes unfortunately.

The fact they're not pedal assisted means they aren't an e-bike, even if they only do the normal 15.5mph top speed.

If your injury lets you stand on a scooter, couldn't you ride an e-bike on top assistance? Range wouldn't be great but at least it's not illegal.
