Coming from a family of beer-swilling squirrels I’ve long been demolisher of our firm-fruited friends.

Right now have a chestnut-rich roast/loaf in the oven and a bowl of KP sitting next to my Hazy Jane.

Recently discovered that the reason KP, Big-D etc taste so great is because they aren’t ‘roasted’, but literally deep-fried. Agh

I have some dry roasted (actually roasted) as a backup when the guilt cuts in deep-fried are demolished.

Notable seasonal favourites are Brazil nuts. Possibly the tastiest nut. Or a green walnut when available. ymmv.

Try this:

- 90g bag of salted peanuts (deep-fried variety, ie KP etc)
- 1 x level teaspoon of dried garlic powder
- 1 x teaspoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon or less of dried red chilli powder
- A few pinches of grated lime or lemon zest or a pinch of lime powder.

Put all in a freezer bag or small jar and shake like thuggery. Enjoy the best-tasting chilli nuts. Add a small pinch of cumin and dried oregano for Tex-Mex variant, or curry powder for Indian variant.

Once in a while, of course. NY resolve= eat most nuts raw and in tiny portions 😳

What am I missing? Don’t let me down…

Try salt & vinegar chick peas, they're great and possibly healthier than peanuts

If you use balsamic or Worcestershire sauce they're even nicer.

@ElShalimo that looks ace. Will do it. Chickpeas are mega-versatile proteins. Have been making ‘no-tuna’ salad with them. Need a chickpea thread, they are one of the most economical and nutritious foods yet also rarely fail to wind-up/set-off British inverted food-snobs.
#garlicbread

Just remembered pistachios. Why isn’t there more pistachio flavoured-filled chocolates/spreads? Hazelnut gets all the choc.

and try to use good big chick peas like Napolina - the small cheap own brand ones from Aldi/Morrisons don't work as well (probably something to do with smaller surface area to soak up spices/flavours and easier to burn)

Marmite cashews. Should really try making them myself.

pedestrian nut

Talking of pedestrian nuts, I just remembered seeing a handful of (walking) locals in the area of Abergavenny, along the Brecon/Monmouth canal path. They were collecting beech mast, and had half-filled carrier bags of them. What do they do with them? I would have enquired, but at the time it seemed rude as I was afloat, swigging from the bottle (and moving more quickly than they).

Marmite cashews. Should really try making them myself.

Someone should invent sprayable Marmite. It could transform cooking.

I've been trying to reduce my salted peanut habit by buying raw redskin peanuts and roasting them myself. Just as more-ish.

Sprayable Marmite sounds like a dream.
