MegaSack DRAW - 6pm Christmas Eve - LIVE on our YouTube Channel
Listening to the news and theres a few people being interviewed about this Hinckley Point build that can't seem to pronounce the word "Nuclear", why are they saying "NUCULAR?", WHY??? why.
Its not like aluminium/aluminum... i accept that as a silent "i" in a dialect maybe.
Anyway. That is all.
I’m not sure I care how they spell it as long as they don’t (attempt to) build it…

No time to read this...currently fixing a pumpture.
I saw a docerumentry about that.
I saw that fillum too.
I read a book about it in the libery.
agreed
Lots of labratory work has led us to our understanding of nucular physics.
Jeez he just aksed a simple question.
I care how they spell it and hope they build it before they lights go out

They get taken there in an ambelance.
When I was very young, I was playing a game of "I Spy" with my folks. Had them guessing for an hour with "L.B." Light Bulb? No. Etc.
When they finally caved and gave up, I triumphantly revealed my answer, "Lastic Band!"
Someone on a ride earlier this week asked me if my bike was tie-tay-nee-um, "no" I replied, "it's tit-ay-nee-um" which caused much hilarity and merriment. You had to be there though.
You had to be there though.
I wasn't even invited
To be fair to some people the spelling of Nuclear may become unclear !!!
Ha Ha Ha, gedditt ...........soz 😉
Ive got it im off......see you ! ........laterz
I've often wondered why people pronounce nuclear incorrectly all the time, it's not like it's a complicated word to understand; nu-clear = new-clear.

Perhaps they can't. Try as I might I almost always pronounce "penicillin" incorrectly. Which is quite annoying as I'm allergic to the stuff.
I have a choice of either saying it carefully and deliberately and sounding like a prat, or saying it quickly incorrectly and sounding like prat.
I usually go for the quickly incorrectly and hope that they won't ask me to repeat it.
If I say it slowly I can say penny-cillin, otherwise it comes out as pen-cillin. You would have thought that the subtle difference wouldn't make much difference, and to be fair I didn't even realise it until I was about 19 and a girlfriend who was a nurse pointed it out to me, specially in answer to the question "are you allergic to anything". But you would be surprised how many people look slightly confused when I answer.
I really ought to practice saying it as my life might depend on some doctor or paramedic not saying "what?" before I lose consciousness.
What the hell is penny-cilllin?

See what mean ?
You're lucky, my penis is illin'

Not got that stuck in a chain as well then?
Shame the OP couldn't spell Hinkley Point correctly. 🙄
Hope they don't build it. A few tidal lagoons on each side of the Severn would be preferable.
TBH if the only thing misunderstood about the nuclear industry was the spelling then the world would be a better place 🙂
Do the tidal lagoons give the same consitent power outputs? What are the downsides to them?
Not an expert Mike but it seems to me that there are many downsides to Hinkley. Chinese money, unproven tech, ages to build, risk of disaster, nuclear waste etc.
Tidal lagoons if enough were built would generate the same amount of electricity.
Nope not that many experts around really, we sacked them all as surplus to requirements...
Chinese money - it would be interesting to see a chart of who actually owns what in the world of finance
Unproven tech - Have you been through the reactor approval handbook?
Ages to build - same with most things - have we started anything else?
Risk of disaster - go on enlighten me as to the risks that are not covered indesign
Nuclear Waste - quantity? Type? Storage requirements? It's a lot different to the older stuff.
Unproven tech - more to the point, it's a PWR. It's not even a fancy variation of a PWR either, just more efficient with some more passive safety systems. In general terms it's no more unproven than a Euro V diesel (Hinkley C) vs a Euro IV diesel (Sizewell B).

Quite.
I've just said I'm not an expert and your asking me questions !
Is there no nuclear waste created from this new tech?
I'm sure every reactor ever was designed to be safe.
I wrote a longer answer but it somehow got lost...
To the point.
Tidal lagoon yes please in my back yard. Nuclear no thanks.

But in specific terms, they've only tried to build one of these before and it's gone really badly. Just to state the obvious, plenty of new iterations of internal combustion engines have been failures- I think before getting into that particular metaphor you might want to think about VAG...
I see the government's bottled it. First real test of the new cabinet. Philip Hammond says it's definitely going ahead, then at the last possible minute oh wait stop. The French commit at last then get told to stop, the chinese investors almost had the pen in their hands amd now they're literally on the plane back home. Mad skills. TBH I'm quite happy to have this particular project delayed but it'd be nice if it wasn't through bumbling incompetence and panic. I mean, it's not like we need electricity right?
(also nice to see the press releases have the same cheat codes as Cameron's days- "it's only right" still means "no we don't know what we're doing". I'm looking forward to the return of "fair", as in "it's fair, pause, that we stole your lunch money and spent it on fags.")
Your splitting hairs.
Or possibly atoms I always get them mixed up
