With the help of my local bike shop, I've just today managed to buy back my custom built Columbia Cycles MTB that I used to compete in the late 80s early 90s (Grundig/Carlseberg etc) . It's never been ridden in close on 25 years and still in the condition I last saw it.

Thing is.. I'm now thinking.. what the hell do I do with it heheh I'll never ride it as I don't want to ruin it and the components prob wouldn't hold out anyway.. I could strip it down and hang the frame on the wall as a memento, but stripping all those original parts off with personal bits like name stamped on crank arms etc seems wrong.

Anyone else have an old bike that's personal to them and what do you do with it ??

Ride it like an Xracer should and marvel at how slow [s]you are[/s] it is now ๐Ÿ˜‰

That's what I [s]would[/s] do.

Not the whole bike, but some parts on a Gary Fisher Sugar 1. 1991 model, I think... Frame was my first purchase off the STW classifieds, bars are Bonty Crow Bars I won in an MTB mag comp, wheels are lovely old Hope/Mavic combo, given to me by a mate. Classic blue, non-disc, Hope hubs that have the original bearings from the 90s! All the other parts came of my ex's Cannondale, STX-RC mainly apart from Cannondale branded crank. Manitous forks with the old boots on the stanchions off ebay. Its a beaut.

My son used it for a bit, but it was too retro for him (I think he got funny questions at school!) Can't get rid of it, so its on permanent loan to my girlfriend - who thinks it's great, only having experienced BSOs.
I have it back at the mo to sort the shifting and took it for a ride. Gawd it's awful. ๐Ÿ˜†

still ride my 1993 Giant CFM3 every day. The original LX rear mech and Exage canti brakes (front only) are still going strong. Also the Zoom stem and bars ๐Ÿ˜€

I rescued my 1989 Kona explosif from my Ex MiL. It hung in the garage for about,oh, 12 years and I gave it away late last year. It was full of memories, Grundigs as well, but I'll never ride it and needed the space. I'm a heartless man.

No nostalgia (or room) for old junk. It gets sold or binned.

I have my first proper road bike from 1987, and one of my grandfather's bike from the sixties. Neither get ridden, neither will ever be got rid of.

No long lived sentimental aspect to my bike but my only bike is a 1990 track bike which I use for all my road and gravel riding all year round.
