I've lived overseas for a long time so excuse my ignorance - do you have to own a car to insure it i.e. if you are not the registered keeper does it matter >=?

Scenario is wife and I are swapping cars, therefore the one she will drive is registered in my name and insured by me and vice versa. Would it make sense to transfer ownership to her and get her prime on insurance then ?

No need.

Might find a multi-car policy where you're both insured for each car would be cheaper though.

Remember that keeper =/= owner too, though some insurance companies seem to struggle with the concept.

We are already named drivers on each of the policies, i hold one and she holds one. Will call ins co and ask them best course of action.

Just carry on as you are then. You're already insured to drive both cars.

You're already insured to drive both cars.

although some policies nominate a 'main driver' so might be worth checking that.
