tried to search the forum but couldn't get it to work?!?
does anyone have one of these, I'm a big fan of my aging n95 (not 8gb), its all ways done well, satnav, camera, music, phone all in all I've been really happy with it but now its knackered, held together with tape and pretty scabby in general, I had a play with an n97 in the store the other day and it seemed pretty good, then I read a load of reviews on the internots. Apparently its slow and crashes a lot?!? I remember the n95 having a few issues but they were sorted with the firmware upgrades.
I'd like to keep it Nokia as I'm not a great fan of the iPhone (the rendering of web pages seems to take forever, the camera is shite and I've no need for a virtual lightsaber or babyshaker). I can't be arsed to wait for the pre if it ever actually makes it over here (again the camera isn't to good and also the company is looking a tad wobbly).
So to you have an n97? what apps do you run (I'd be wanting to use Gravity, twitter client) and which widgets do you have? oh and is the camera as "snappy" as the original n95?
cheers!
sorry I cannot help with the Nokia as when i came to order one from Vodafone they told me to avoid as they were getting so many back, they advised me to go for the HTC Touch Pro 2 which i have now been using for a week. i have been really struggling to get on with the phone after many years of nokia but now am starting to really enjoy using it. espeicially for txt, email and web.
Touch Pro 2 is good but huge. The Touch Diamond 2 is perfect, and will be even better when upgraded to Windows Mobile 6.5 which is out on 30th Sept. You can buy now and upgrade later
I was looking at the N97 recently but ended up with an iPhone because
- The N97 interface is a bit crap - it's obvious that a lot of the programs just use a standard keypad design with the touch screen control grafted on
- The apps available aren't great (and if you think that an iphone lightsabre is the only decent thing out there, you're very wrong)
- It's clunky to use and the touch screen really isn't great.
This is based on using my mate's N97 for a day. I'm no apple fanboi (in fact, quite the opposite) but the iPhone really did wipe the floor with the N97. Not sure about the rendering issues you mentioned with the iPhone - mine seems to work way better than the N95 8GB I had before did. As for the camera, despite being pretty average in terms of pixels, in terms of the pics it takes, I'd say that actually they're as good as the N95. No flash of course though which may be an issue for some.
A friend has had 3 N97's in as many months!
I had a play when he first got it and wasn't impressed, despite liking Nokia's. Sluggish and the touch screen was unresponsive.
I've just got an iphone 3GS and it's use is so much better. Now, lightsabres you say..... 🙂
