We will be in touch
We've uncovered an old fire place in the master bedroom. There's no draft but it makes a racket when the wind is blowing.
Would stuffing the chimney with loft insulation be a wise move or not?
Any other ideas how to quite it down?
Ta.
Google Chimney Balloon. Then buy or make your own... I think a diy option was to stick the bladder from a wine box up there and inflate it. You need to provide a bit of ventilation to allow any rain that gets in to dry out.
Also it's worth doing regardless of noise, as apparently if you hold your hand over the pot in cold weather, the hot air rushing out makes a good impression of s hair dryer.
Also have a google for 'chimney sheep'
I've not tried one but they look like they might be good.
Thanks for the suggestions, we have a chimney sheep, it helps a little but is still a little loud.
We might try a balloon too, belts and braces that way.
We pulled two bin liners worth of Jackdaw nests down, in hindsight I think that was muffling the noise, room smells better without them though.
I stuffed the flue of the old gas fire with carrier bags, seems to have cut the noise down so far, still a whisper of wind noise but nothing as bad as it was.
