Has anyone on here owned a Wii u? Are they any good as we are thinking of buying my mum and dad one for Xmas as they like the first Wii, only problem is I don't know anyone that has owned one to tell me if they are any good which is a bit weird giving the length of time they have been out.
I bought one of the kids when they first came out.
They like it; depends what games your folks are into and whether they still want to play the old games/use the old accessories.
Yeah I think you are able to use the old games on the Wii u, they actually like the Mario's and donkey Kong games.
I have just bought one for the kids for Christmas. We already have a Wii, but all the new games coming out now for the for Wii U. I have had a quick play with it to make sure it is ready for Christmas Day, but haven't used it properly. Graphics are much better, the tablet is nice to use, overall it just feels more up to date. I am expecting the kids to make use of the fact that games can just be played on the tablet, with the TV turned off. The fact we can still use all our existing Wii stuff was a big selling point.
I managed to get one for a really good price from Amazon.
They haven't sold well, I don't think Nintendo have marketed it very well, they haven't really marketed the fact that it is a totally different console to the Wii. There are some good games coming out for it at the moment so I would imagine sales will increase.
Got one for the kids last year when they came out, great bit of kit, deserves much better sales than it has, love how if I want to check something on the telly the game can mirror onto the hand held bit while the game is still going, and it can stream lovefilm so the kids can stick in headphones and watch a movie and give me peace to watch what I want. Must qualify that we are a one tv house so shuffling the kids to their rooms to play games doesn't happen. We all have iPads etc so we are not totally in the dark ages just not tv's in every room. And I wish Nintendo would hurry up and get a proper new Zelda out for it as it would be epic!
Yeah I was really surprised that I couldn't find anyone that had one or knew someone that had one, the prices online really vary but it's almost like some of them have just have given up trying to sell it, even in my local game store I couldn't find one until I looked in a corner behind as big Xbox stand.
The best price I've found is tesco £240 with Mario.
Ive got one, bought it a couple of weeks ago.
At the moment Game are doing a deal where you get £50 off a new WiiU if you trade an old Wii in (well they were a couple of weeks ago, had to remind them of the offer in store though!). They will play old Wii games fine.
They are great systems, some really entertaining games out for them. Be aware though that if you download the new WiiU Sports it will only download one part of the program (which is free), you then have to pay £9 to get each individual sport for it or you can "rent" it I think (download the game, then pay for an access code to activate it when you want to play it).
First thing they will have to do when they turn it on is download a load of system updates for it which takes a while (well it did on mine but my connection is crap).
There are not many titles out at the moment for them, considering they have been out for a year but some good looking games in development for them. At the moment Rayman Legends and Lego Undercover are keeping me very entertained indeed, got Mario 3D on the list of future purchases as well.
Graphics are a major step up from the original Wii, on a par with PS3/360 quality IMO.
Thanks guys I think I'll go ahead and buy it as the feed back on here has helped reassure me, just wasn't sure as no one seemed to have one.
Game seem to occasionally list the Mario bundle at £199.
I bought the Lego City bundle with Rayman Legends from Amazon for £199 on their Black Friday deal, and then got £20 back as the Amazon description mentions the Nintendo Land game in the description, but it isn't actually included. I had an online chat with them and they were surprising quick to give me a refund. I don't think they have updated the description yet, just in case you were planning to buy from Amazon...
