I don't smoke anymore, thanks to nicotine gum. The problem is, I'm hooked on the gum now, like for the last two years 😯

Is the chronic use of nicotine gum likely to be harmful?

I doubt it. I thought all the tar and other stuff were the carcinogens?

yes. Same circulatory illnesses as cigs
You now need to taper down off the gum

What NRT allows you to do is to fight the addiction in two parts. Firstly by using NRT you lose the immediate hit of a cig and the pleasure of smoking. Break that part of the addiction.

then once you are used to that you can do a slow taper to break the addiction to nicotine.

i stopped just over a year ago. NRT for 6 months then a taper off it. Very ocasional use of NRT now.

I was told once that chewing gum all of the time is not good for your stomach.

The logic being that chewing produces extra saliva and this then increases the amount of acid in your stomach because it thinks that food is coming, but it isn't and it just sits there potentially causing problems.

Not sure how true it is, but it does sound plausible.

Why do you need to taper down the addiction to nicotine? The physical addiction is tiny, the psychological addiction is the problem.
