Hopefully someone will be able to help here...

As part of my September of woe (PS3/washing machine breakdowns) the car is also playing up.

It is 3.5 years old, 25k on the clock, full service history (at Mazda apart from last service which was done at an independent because the car was out of warranty).

Anyway, a warning light has appeared on the dash - it is a car with two 'swerve' lines under. The manual says DSC (Dynamic Stability Control) fault and take it to a dealer.

A quick Google says it is a common fault and approx £1500 to repair!!!!

Anyhoos, we don't have £1500 going spare and am looking for help. Has anyone come across this and know of cheaper fixes.

Or

Does anyone know if the DSC will effect the ABS at all? I know that the model below doesn't even have DSC so I assume it is perfectly safe to drive in a normal manner IF (and only if) any malfunction does not also effect the ABS.

Any thoughts or ideas on how this might be resolved.

Or any ideas on how best to approach Mazda UK if we do need to spend 1/10 of the original purchase price on a repair that appears to be a commonly experienced fault on low mileage cars just out of warranty.

Ta

There's a very easy way to see if the ABS is affected. Just find a quiet straight road!

Of no connection at all but the DSC light came on in my BMW. Turned out the steering angle sensor just needed a quick re-calibration and only cost £50...so it might not be £1500.

If it is a £1500 and a common fault I'd be going back to Mazda to see if there's any good will.

Too right we will! Can't possibly afford that sort of money, especially on a low mileage, fully serviced vehicle.

Arsebiscuits.
