Right it's time to ask the all knowing STW massive whats right and whats not.

Been looking at 2 Panasonic tele's one is a 42" plasma and one a 37" LCD.

There is a couple of hundred quid difference but that does not come into the eqaution.

Are there any pro's and con's for either type of tele, ie Plasma less reliable or more expensive to mensd if it gets buggered up?

pointers and advice welcome

Ta
Dave

I got a panasonic plasma about 6 months ago and I've been very impressed with it, although I'm sure someone will be along in a minute to tell me I made the wrong choice. I suspect the difference between most of these tellys is actually quite small so I wouldn't spend too much time worrying about your choice.

We've got a Pana 37" plasma P37X10 (I think).

It's stunning whether on TV, DVD or Blu-ray.

I did quite a bit of research into it a few months ago and came to the conclusion that for the money the Panasonic plasmas were very difficult to beat. We don't have room for the 42" or I'd have gone for that one.

panasonic plasma for me too
looked at lots of lcd's and plasma lcd better if in the sunlight alot.
lcd has bit too much 'contrast' for me.
but the deciding factor was because I have 2 small children things bounce off a plasma screen
( a couple of friends of mine have had lcd's damaged by flying objects and crayons etc)

Hi Dave
I was asking the same question as you for past 12 months, we had decided on Pansonic but not sure about 37" LCD or 42" Plasma. Missus was against a big telly and i also wasn't 100% for the bigger one.

Anyway we visited a few shops for a look and decided on the TX-P42V10 42" NeoPDP, we got a very good deal from the Panasonic shop in Leicester (you can haggle).

Not sure about the Pro's and con's of Plasma V LCD but both of us are so happy we we went for the 42" size.

We also got a 5 year warranty thrown in too.

Picture and sound quality is great and i'm a big fan of Panasonics build quality so hopefully should get many years life

My advise is get the biggest that you can comfortably fit in the room/space

I am trying to hold off at the moment - got a 32" (I think???) Samsung LCD just now, but with Freeview HD due next year (think I heard?) that means there is almost certainly going to be a slight shift in tuner spec and I don't want to buy now and regret not holding out for a bit longer!

I could, of course, be wrong 😉

Oh aye - LED LCD is looking good to me at the moment!

Plasma gives a better picture with standard feeview broadcasts.

LCD tvs are evolving and have greatly improved.

HD signals give impressive results on either format.

Plasma TV's picture actually improves over time and talk of screen burn and them wearing out is utter nonsense.

Most current LCDs use a cfl tube for baclighting. These can and do fail.

I'm sure that super slim LED backlit LCD TVs are the future due to their low power consumption and space saving dimensions.

As soon as they get LCD digital processing to the stage where day to day TV picture quality is as good as (if not better than) Plasma picture perfomance, then plasma is dead.

The new series of Samsung LCD tv's give some really impressive reviews.

This review of one of the latest ones gives an idea.

hang out for o.l.e.d that is the future price could be an issue but saying that lcd/plasma prices have tumbled over the last year. have an lcd 37" but when looking at plasma i think plasma wins but with the new led lcd screens i think they have got the plasma licked so you need a good sde by side test in your local shop

42" Samsung plasma here with 6.1 surround. Casino Royale on HD looks & sounds great. The new LED LCDs are catching up, but you're going to pay for it.

I have a 32" Phillips LCD & a 42" Panasonic plasma (both getting SD freeview signals & 720p screens). I prefer the plasma picture, but they are almost 2 years old & I think that LCD's are probably improving. Whatever you get make sure that you assess the picture using what will be your main source IIRC 1080p LCD screens didn't deal with SD signals particularly well.

Ignore the LED people it's piss poor and very expensive at the minute, yes it's the future but it's still in the future.

LCD Vs Plasma can go on all day arguing so look at what like but stay with a few manufacturers. Samsung, Sony and Panasonic are your best bet.
