Was wondering if anyone has done this been thinking of getting one and converted it to a mini camper

Just curious as how you find it?

Is it an idea to go for the tourneo?

Depends on how you want to do...sleep inside with all your kit? Bigger van needed. If happy to sleep above then something like an ikamper would suit and the vehicle becomes the storage solution so doesn't need to be as big.

the wellhouse evie is a tidy bit of kit the pop top roof is an expensive add on but if you dont have a hi top van it really makes all the difference.

but do consider where youll be sleeping - ie the bikes will be on a rack out the back - kinda stops you sleeping where you stop which for me is half the draw of a camper.

How ever bikes inside a usable camper isnt happening until your in a much bigger van.

If your using campsites and just dont like tents then this is much less of an issue and just batter a big lock through the chassis

Bikes will be outside, unless parking up and going hiking, something basic sleeping space and storage stuff

Thanks I'll look at them

Gave up with bikes outside van when some genius cut my towbar off...van was backed into a wall, bikes triple locked. Left for 30 mins. Next van can take 4 bikes inside.

what does a roof tent achieve that a regular tent doesnt - other than make it a pain to get up at night for a piss.

A MWB fullsize van seems to be the way forward - something like a ducato where you can get a sideways bed in the back , bikes under it and still fit in a regular parking space.

It it makes you look like a full on gnaarrr overlanding Croc Dundee and makes your Land Rover look like it should be in Africa!

(while you camp in a field in Peterborough with no lions 🦁)

A mate of mine uses one as a surf dayvan. Panel ply lined and sound deadened, floor has sound deadening and underlay then ply then carpet, roof has sound deadening and fabric. Two air vents in the roof that spin on thier own. No divider between bulkhead and driver but a roll bar cage behind drivers seat. Passenger seat altered to a clip/remove system)he bought online all fittings) and a lift out/temporary cover the same height as the passenger seat into the footwell giving extended length from rear door to glovebox all flat floor.

A couple of surfboard hangers on passenger side rear ply, a camping mattress on floor with a layer of rolled up underlay for extra padding. A pump action water butt and small camping sink behind driver seat fixed to cage, a few built in storage boxes from ikea screwed into drivers side panels. Spare camping battery with some fancy aux connectors for his DVD/IPad and a portable WiFi.

Its ace for him, he has taken his wife with occasionally but it’s a bit of a squeeze he says. He says he sweats a bit in hot weather but it isn’t cold in the winter other than a bit damp from surfboards and wetsuits etc.

He reckons it cost him about £300 in materials and took two weekends to do.
