What would you recommend or think is currently worth considering?
Needs more 64Gb basic capacity or the ability to expand it easily.
Large 9-10 inch screen, with a good resolution
Use - browsing, email, you-tube not looking to be particularly productive on it.
Not looking for the cheapest option, as I want it to last.
Only considering replacing my current tablet, which is over 4 years old, as too many sites adverts crash the browser 😉
I tend to use my tablet just for watching the odd movie when travelling, and a bit of web browsing. Although I did just find a fabulously accurate recreation of Elite (Alite), which now has me gaming a bit on the thing. My trusty old Hudl died on me earlier in the year and I eventually went for this....

A Chuwi Hi10. It's a 10in dual boot (Android or Win10), tablet with an Intel quad processor. I got it with an optional plug in keyboard, (which I use pretty much most of the time as it's a very handy stand). The addition of the keyboard gives the tablet extra USB ports and maybe even an HDMI port, although I'm not 100% sure on that!
For £150, I've been well impressed

You need 64Gb of storage and a hi-res 10" screen for web, email and YouTube?
Have you considered either:
1. Wiping the tablet you have - this might well give it a new lease of life.
2. Installing Cyanogenmod on it - a free version of android that is often more up to date than the official version for any tablet and has the unneeded guff removed.
Other than that, Samsung for a quality tablet - Tab A for cheapness, Tab S2 for better screen/processor/memory, etc.
No Cougar, I want a minimum of 64Gb so that the bloody OS doesn't fill it so full, i can't load the occasional movie for holidays/trips
Cranberry - current one is an iOS device, so not applicable but thank you for the S2 suggestion
i can't load the occasional movie for holidays/trips
... which you didn't mention in your OP, which is why I was asking.
Cranberry's suggestion of a factory reset is worth trying. If you're going to replace it anyway you've nothing to lose by trying it.
Remember with the S2 you can add in a memory card - at least 128Gb, so you can store plenty of movies and more besides. The OS and apps shouldn't come to more than about 10Gb of the on-board memory - I can check with my Note Pro at home this evening if you want.
EDIT - http://www.samsung.com/uk/consumer/mobile-devices/tablets/galaxy-tab-s/SM-T819NZWEBTU
23.9Gb ( not a bad guess ) is available, 128Gb card supported.
I've just bought a Tab S2, seems pretty good, probably massively overspecced for what I use it for.
