So the new kitchen is in but I made a balls up buying the sink.
Wasn't too fussed with the new one and just replaced the old stainless steel sink with a cheap Cook & Lewis one from B&Q and it's completely shite, very flexy when using the tap wkich something like THIS one.
So I want to change the sink for another. Not sure what thickness the steel is but would a thicker steel sink still flex with the leverage from a tall tap...? Would we be better to get another material?
Cheers

In the picture on that link the tap is mounted to a worktop on top of a ceramic sink, a very stable base.
Do you think you could buy a metal sink thick enough to stop flexing?

Bracket the tap to the back of the cabinet if you don't want flex. Assuming it has a long threaded bar holding a c- washer to clamp the tap, you need another lock nut on the bar, a well placed large angle bracket fixed to the cabinet back and a bike drilled in it for the bar to pass through, then another lock nut. If the tap instead has a large threaded tube, a pipe clip for 32mm waste pipe will be a good fit, use one of these and some packing to clamp tap to back off cabinet. This will stop any flex. Another way, less good but helps, silicon some ply to the underside of the sink close around the tap hole. I've used this method to stiffen a draining board, used both the tap clamp methods, work great.

A hole.... Not a bike. Bloody phone.

You can get a special plate to stiffen up the area under the tap which will save you having to fork out for a new sink. The trade counter at B&Q should know.

Franke make a small brace kit to stiffen up thin sinks. It works by steadying the tap to the worktop instead of using the sink.

Cheers guys.
@ neilnevill, the tap is actually like this ONE that's mounted on the sink so I don't know if what you said will work with this type of tap?
My mate did the plumbing up so I can ask him. The sink sits on a 500mm cabinet.

What I said will probably work with that tap, all sink mounted taps either clamp the sink with a c washer, nut and bar, or a nut and long threaded tube. Here is the cranks thing which is the same sort of idea as I said, I prefer clamping to the cabinet (or wall if the cabinet isn't full backed)

I have one of those Franke tap braces. It works but is an absolute pig to install in a confined space.

I have a Franke sink and a big tap a bit like you have

Don't notice any flex at all, don't think we have a brace fitted

Not sure if it makes a difference, but we only have a single basin sink. Not a 1.5 or similar, just one particularly big sink

The problem there is that I have tails on mine, so would it work as well?

Swop to solid tails on the tap and use a couple of pipe clips and 2x1 to brace or buy the Franke thing.
Take it the tap came with flexy tails. The solid copper ones are hard to get hold of, you can get them from Ebay though.

Good call mimmie, I'll ask my mate if he can swap the flexis over to the copper ones, trouble is I can't remember what size they are 9 or 10mm.

It is but before it gets locked .......

my mixer tap has the two tails and a threaded bar neil describes above, but the nut keeps loosening and the tap goes wobblier than a PM that no-one voted for again.

I can't get a spanner in there to tighten it between the pipes and the back of the cabinet and finger tight only then loosens again, is there a special tool I need?
