We have a small extension/new kitchen on the way, but are now faced with the joyous choices you get with this. Kitchen/applicances are coming from Magnet or Howdens (builder whose a m8, will whittle the price down by playing them off each other and give us it for the trade price).
BUT let alone the goddam awful cupboard handle my g/f wants, how do you go about picking the appliances?

Just set a price and pick the one that 'looks' best or spend the next year(?) trying to find reviews on the kit on offer??
We need/want a double cooker, gas hob, extrator hood & dish washer - that a lot of info to try to locate then review...

Last year we did exactly the same ie wanted a double electric oven, seperate 5 burner hob, built in fridge, built in dishwasher and extractor.

Our builder got the kitchen from Howdens and said they would be competitive. They couldnt match the prices we paid else where, and they have limited products available.

First of all we went round all the big stores to look at what was available, and narrowed it down to features, styles and layouts we liked. We then googled reviews on each appliance and came up with stuff on forums where people slated certain brands and not others.

You can pay what you want so you do need to set a budget. We ended up with a Neff double oven (had one before and like them + same group as Siemens and Bosch), Bosch hob, Bosch fridge (most useful space inside) and Philips Whirlpool (we liked the layout inside) dishwasher. All got positive feedback in forums/which.

We found it very difficult to get all the appliances from one supplier and get the best deal, so we ended up getting some from Boots online, others from Dixons. Boots was cheap if you factered in boots points etc. We ended up having about £150 boots points! In all we probably saved about £700 rather than buying from Comet/Currys etc.
