Bought an 06 Astravan at the weekend, hurrah! Only one key with it, boo!
Rang up a Vauxhall dealer to ask about getting a spare key just now - £20 for the code, £60 for the new spare key, £30 for the remote AND labour charge on top for programming all this.
As someone who's just upgraded from a P reg Escort van this came as a shock, to say the least.
Questions
A)Can I get a spare anywhere else other than official Vauxhall dealers? i.e somwhere cheaper?
and B) MUST I get remote locking button on the spare?
Thank you
you should be able to get a non remote one, we had one for our 03 plate combo
sounds quite cheap.
I paid £150 for a replacement key for my renault after the first one broke. They did a second one at the same time for 'only' £75 quid though.
I've just gone through the same with my VW as per http://www.singletrackworld.com/forum/topic/lost-vw-key-help
Had the coding done this week; it was a while-you-wait job so that was slightly less inconvient than it could have been. Around £150 all in.
£70 for a replacement key for the picasso.....Have been told that the new landy freelander keys cost around £400 as you need to change a load of electronics with it....
Seems like another way for the ol car companies to get more cash out of us...hold on, dont we now own most of the car companies?????
Having recently been burgled, the theives nicked our VW Jetta key and Audi A3 keys along with the A3.
I can assure you that the cost of the key is nothing compared to the locks as well. Strangely Audi A3 = £450 fitted, VW Jetta =£650 fitted.
Scrambling the code is about £30-40 too. I wondered what the barrel by the service desk in the dealership was for. Now I know!

Don't lose a Mercedes key, it is cheaper to buy another car
