after Severance
Ah yeah. Forgot about that. V different, v good. And I think that's all we have to watch atm, plus Am I Being Unreasonable which despite Daisy May King is really good.
i think with squid games, as it's netflix's sacred cow they probably wanted to truncate the final season (as is the convention these days) to milk it and build anticipation etc
the way S2 ends definitely suggests that season '2' and '3' are effectively the same series. I think season 3 is in June 2025?
Just finished it. It is ok. I think 2 and 3 are/were filmed back to back and being released separately because money, probably.
Way too very much is rehashed from the first series. Ya, I know, it is the same thing, but again and different, but you know, it isn't different enough.
The first one or two (I forget now, that's how good they were) episodes are total filler, no contribution to the plot. You could entirely leave them out and start at the start of "the games" and you would not miss anything.
Some of the characters have no reason for being there. The cheesy rapper? Why not, I dunno, keep rapping, instead of committing drug addled suicide? The front man in 001 outfit? yeah, er, why not, I dunno, do the regular front man job instead of risking life in the arena?
The side plots are, er, um, well... The ex police guy on the boat isn't doing squat... The soldier in the organ harvesting thing... nope, nothing really doing there either...
As often with sequels, less would have been more.
I don't think it's been mentioned yet.. Cassandra (Netflix) is worth a watch if you like Black Mirror type stuff.
Bit of rewatching but Jack Irish series on Netflix, not as good as the books but pretty good for TV.
S3 of Reacher (Amazon Prime) is good so far. First 3 episodes are available, after that it's one per week.
Got Zero Day lined up for the weekend. Good review in the Guardian - which is not always a key indicator.
Watched Organ Trail on Netflix. Proper brain-out attempt at a "gritty western", but ended up being very silly. Had it's moments of WTF violence, but apart from that, not really worth the bother.
Vesper on All4 - interesting SF indie movie that raises more questions than it answers.
Seen 'Vesper'?
Watch it here on Channel 4: https://www.channel4.com/programmes/vesper?cntsrc=social_share_android_vesper
Watched Renfield at the weekend, and rather enjoyed it. Also watched The Lighthouse last night. Weirdly watchable but... hmmmm
We finished Big Boys last night on All4. Very well written last couple of episodes, lots of tears
😭
Just finished second season of Mr Inbetween - Aussie drama about a bouncer who does random "work" collecting debts, bumping people off etc. It's got some very dark humour in, and some "dusty" moments. I can't start season 3 as once I do that it's all over.
Bloody brilliant though, if you can find it. There's HEAPS of snippets on YT.
Organ Trail
So they thought of a pun, then tried to work out how to make a programme out of it?

Any Paramount+ users on here. The new episodes of Yellowjackets are horrendous quality, you can see huge pixels in any dark areas, and there are many dark areas. I've binned the 'standard' subs and will try the higher quality one for the next month. But I was wondering if anyone else (as OCD about this sort of thing) had noticed how terrible it is?
Zero day, 2 episodes in, it's ok, not great so far. Netflix failed to play episode 2 directly after 1, so we are watching it quite slowly so far.
Just finished second season of Mr Inbetween
Most of us watched it years ago 😛

Well, it's actually a film, but yeah, the title doesn't really correspond to anything in the film. Well except I suppose skin is an organ and some bad things happen to skin!
Only 2 episodes in but enjoying 'A thousand blows' on Disney+
Playing catchup on stuff I've missed over the years too so been binging on Narcos over the last few weeks.
Just watched The One That Got Away - Welsh noir on BBC. The usual cast of Welsh actors, usual gloomy scenery - really enjoyed it!!
Also started White Lotus, but recent events make me not that interested watching Americans be American. I realise that is illogical.
+1 for Renfield. Went in with very low expectations. I was pleasantly surprised. Fluffy and funny.

I don't watch much telly 🙂 Bloody good show though. Actually just eaten some dimmies 😉
May have been done already, but Longlegs is on Prime and is a very enjoyable horror film with a special performance by Nic Cage.
All together now: Let me in now, and it can be nice
Just finished Ted Lasso.
Great apart from the episode where the shrink had the bike accident!
Bugs me that she was riding a nice Bromptom previously, then on the day she was to have her accident they swapped it for a cheaper Dahon-style folder for her to crash, and then Ted presents her with a new bike, which is the same Brompton she had before !
So that Brompton must have belonged to a member of the crew who loaded it for the shots - I can't believe that saving a few K on the bike was such an issue that continuity could be thrown away, in comparision to the rest of the budget ?
How many Ford Gran Torinos did Starsky and Hutch get through, and Apple can't afford two Brompton SLs ?
Binged 'A Thousand Blows' last week, really enjoyed it! Some of the accents grate a bit by the end though 🙂
'White Lotus' is excellent (as expected) nice to have some episodic TV that forces you to only watch one per week!
Watched the last eps of 'Cobra Kai' as well, obviously it's gotten pretty ridiculous now but I really enjoyed it & they've rounded it off well.
There's actually a history of freeride film on Amazon Prime (annoyingly, with ads)
Nothing's For Free (on Prime, lol!). Starts with a rather WTF?! shot of Danny Mac...

Haha, even the BBC had budget for multiple Bromptons in W1A
Somehow missed ossify raving about Arcane a few months back (you tried the search on here lately?? It only blimmin works!)
Arcane.
Just... wow.
Just watched The One That Got Away - Welsh noir on BBC. The usual cast of Welsh actors, usual gloomy scenery - really enjoyed it!!
Oh lordy, is it as bleak as Hinterland?? We watched that while renovating a house and my word it was relentless.
We just finished The Old Man (S1) last night. Was very Good TV - great cast, well acted, multi-layered - but in that way that makes you appreciate the quality rather than just enjoy it. Not sure we'll watch S2; there's a ton of other stuff to watch in the meantime.
Also finished up S2 of Only Murders in the Building. Very poor season, although the last episode was funny.
Still watching and enjoying White Lotus; Jason Isaacs is very good, and Walton Goggins would be epic in Sesame Street or Hey Duggee. Also got Cra (Irish language) and North Shore on the go, both good in different ways
Speaking of Walton Goggins, the latest (penultimate) episode of Invincible S03 on Prime is so gory it'd be unbroadcastable on most networks if it wasn't animated!

I started S2 and then just forgot about it.
Too many scenes of sitting around talking with Arab men, whose intentions are unclear. Yawn.
Ignore me, wrong thread!

Yes, and some of the same actors. I love that stuff 🙂
Adolescence on Netflix. An amazing piece of television. Ep3 the interview is one of the finest scenes I've ever seen. Considering it was done in one take it shows the quality of the amazing writing and acting.
Toxic Town on Netflix
Cracking cast, based on a true story of environmental effects on children that I'd not heard of before, but not too heavy/depressing
I found Adolescence a bit underwhelming tbh, episode three was ok but the rest seemed a bit forced / contrived/ cliched. YMMV.
"The One That Got Away" on BBC
Good story, some cliches (sadly), I knew of one or two of the cast, decent enough series and better than some BBC stuff
I found Adolescence a bit underwhelming tbh, episode three was ok but the rest seemed a bit forced / contrived/ cliched. YMMV.
Quite the opposite for me. Loved it. Each show was one take continuously filmed. The lad had no prior acting training too.
Cliched in what way? What have you seen that's similarly themed??
I was struggling for the right word hence the combo. It was the earnest banging away with the incel / toxic masculinity theme to the detriment of a wider perspective / story. You could’ve just had episode three on its own. Obvs YMMV, maybe I’m not. fan of social realism entertainment.
Saw Black Bag at the cinema the other day. Very good.

What he said. Great performances by Stephen Graham (of course) and Asher D, but the kids were amazing.
banging away with the incel / toxic masculinity
It wasn't mentioned until the last 5 minutes of ep 2 !!
re Adolescence, only saw first episode but its a stunning achievement. I was trying to see where they sneaked in any cuts but there was only one obvious opportunity; in the house raid when a copper walks past the camera and it briefly blacks out.
I can't get my head around the genuine one take thing - so if an actor fluffed their line at 59 mins then they have to reshoot the whole episode? Thats a bad example as they can overdub. What about an actor trips on a mic cable or something?
Stephen Graham had a proper Bob Hoskins, long good friday, moment later on. You'll know it when you see it.

I think the incel / toxic masculinity theme was the wider perspective / story!
One of the most remarkable bits of tele I've seen in years. Huffington Post have got a good article on the filming process of the one take.
Finished Mr Inbetween the other day.
Just tailed off a little bit in S3 (understandable since it was made in COVID times), but a decent ending which reminded me of Sopranos.
Anyone know if the movie it was based on is on any of the streamers?
Took a quick look at Netflix over the weekend and saw a couple of new must-watches (when the OH is away) on there.
Sisu: gory, foreign-language Nazi killing. Spiderman Across the Spiderverse - I absolutely love Into the Spiderverse but never got round to seeing Across the Spiderverse.
We started Paradise last night and are hooked.
Also still enjoying North Shore - standard detective show, but with enough Aussie-ness to make it very entertaining.
And Only Murders S3 is already a huge improvement on S2.
We started Paradise last night and are hooked.
Came on here to recommend this. Turned out to be much better than I was expecting.
It's on Disney+ BTW
Paradise is great! The way it goes from one thing to something completely different is excellent!
