Right, apologies for the wussiness which follows. I'm new to cuts and wounds, usually just bruise spectacularly instead.
I fell off on Weds night due to appalling uphill climbing technique. I should have got off and walked. Anyway, I'd just fitted some DMR V8's, don't have shin pads yet to fit (I'm fat yada yada), and a peg appears to have gone straight in about 3 inches under the back of my knee and dragged down the back of my shin to a few inches above my ankle. I've not looked (wuss), OH says it's deep. It bled a lot. He's muttering about A & E, I don't want to go, it's not infected & I'm not bothering them with rubbish.
So you lot get bothered with it instead, sorry. Please tell me the fastest way I can get it to reknit? Butterfly plasters, spray on plasters, what do I put on it? Creams? Gauze and Micropore with lots of Savlon are weapons of choice at the moment but it's stinging a lot 2 days later & it possibly shouldn't be, but I don't know. Any advice would be appreciated, pointing and laughing is allowed :O)
If it was my leg i'd clean it with tap water, cover it with a non absorbant dressing then leave it till the dressing falls off and repeat. Im not arsed about a scar tho.
You'll know if you need to see a Dr.
If you want it dressed properly just go to the nurse at your gp's surgery, but as it's weekend & they're probably shut, I personally would just do as above.
You really don't want to go to A&E at this time on a friday night. But as above; clean with water, not antiseptic and apply suitable sterile dressing. If you are still worried monday (as I'm assuming it ain't been pouring with blood since wednesday), pop to see the nurse at your GP's/ walk in centre/ minor injuries unit. If it's still pouring with blood/ goo and you are getting a bit feverish and falling over, retire to quiet space and die quietly or go to A&E ๐ , but I'd leave it till the morning if you can. All advice given, under the clause I have no idea how bad the cut is.
It's really not that bad. Well it doesn't feel that bad.
I don't mind about a scar, I just want it to heal as fast as it can so I can get on my bike again without opening it again. I'll stick with the gauze and hope.
Define 'Deep'.
I'm not clear on where your cut is, but I had some bad pin gouges on my shin, they needed stitches. I think it was something to do with the lack of meat on that part of the leg meaning that the gashes would continually get pulled apart otherwise. There wasn't all that much blood, though you could see the bone in one place.
BTW, a medical person has a whole new idea about how thoroughly clean a wound should be, but those little scrubby things sure do the job!
If it keeps opening up then it needs a stich or a stera strip.
That's why my camelbak contains stera strips, wound pads and gaffer tape.
I misread this. Thought it was about scrim cloth & board jointing tape. ๐
Cue TJ for lecture on how, as a registered nurse, he knows that everyone should not bother carrying first aid kits and just call for the medical professionals.
