In the root of my portable HD:

dd8d856699761a82b48cdf8a9b26

Wtf? It's a folder, it contains another folder called x86, and I can't gain access to that even as admin. All the security checkboxes are greyed out.

Something to do with the OS or filesystem I'm sure, but why can I see them? Never seen them before on any other hd.

that's the file the moderators put on all our pc's so they can make sure the ban hammer works if it's ever needed.

Have you applied a service pack or windows updates recently?

Yup, it it contains the 'tag' that the mods use to categorise us.

If you send them a tenner, they tell you how to open it.

Yes, but this isn't a windows drive, it's a portable that's only connected occasionally.

It'll be some Windows updates. Just ignore them.

Edit. Just seen that its not the system drive... H'mm, not too sure why a Win update would place them there TBH.

I don't think they are. I'd be able to delete them.

I think it's system volume information that I can somehow see.

when you mount the drive does it have two "folders", and even if you are not using it, does the drive have any encryption features?

It's your diet and exercise plan, the folder name is just the current version number

Huh.. so I tried again to delete and they went, despite me not having access to see what was in there that I deleted.

Weird. Maybe I should do a chkdsk.
