I ride an 08 rockhopper pro disc. It's not got many original parts, but the frame is still good and I like it a lot.

Recently it's being picked on by certain folks on here for being

"a medieval torture device"

and

"that boneshaking evil, worn out thing"

I reckon they're just jealous as it's a classic. Leave the bike alone. It's done nothing to hurt you.

It's only 4 years old. Neither classic, nor medieval! As long as you enjoy it, that's what counts. Some people on here change bikes more often than they change their underwear.

If it makes you happy, who gives a flying F what others think.

I'll always have a soft spot for Rockhoppers. I remember when my cousin bought one many years ago, he let me borrow it and it was a revelation to me. I'd never ridden a 'proper' MTB before and couldn't get over how good it was.

It's impossible to ride in the Peak on a hardtail. People are just concerned for you. Treat it as a compliment.

This is STW, it's not about riding. It's about buying things and losing weight. 😉

Perhaps you need to go on the iDave diet?

Wish id never sold my 2001 one.. Cracking little hardtail. A bit garish at the time in brilliant white and red but what goes round come around. Sold it to fund an sworks enduro. As noted above, was my first proper "grown up" MTB. Sniff.

Like althepal -= riding one was a revelation albeit in the 90s. Good bike and you like it, so what's the fuss? I prefer full suspension - but a good hardtail is a thing to be enjoyed, unlike a bad one which is pretty much as your mates describe IME.

I have my cove and my ft. Both hardtails. Seen a few full Suss on the same stuff I ride. Still reckon. I'm having. More fun.

My frames an 04 rockhopper, the wheels are from the original 98 rockhopper that cracked in 04 an the frame was replaced by specialized. Forks are 04 bomber marathon sls. Nothin wrong with either of them. Use stuff til it wears out then replace it with the best you can afford. My upgraded xtr an xt groups still goin strong from 04.

I have the said garish 2001 red and white one and I still think its a quality frame, so much so it's cleaned awaiting hanging from my wall as artwork.

Rockhoppers are seriously underrated bikes. Not flash, not burly, not bouncy, not a 29er, not cool, and **SHOCK HORROR** a SPECIALIZED!!!!

Uncool and non-niche to the MAXXXXXXX!!!!

But they are superb bikes. They just do what they say on the tin. And carry on doing it. 🙂

*raises hand*

My ride is a RH Pro 2010.

I bought it because I liked it, rather than because someone else told me I should like it. I test-rode dozens.

My first "proper" MTB was a Rockhopper, great bike and much missed. I sold it to my mate who still owns it.

I miss my 1996 one. I sold it to my brother in law, who sold it to a friend, who sold it to a complete ####.

I often see it being ridden around the streets in a very poor state of repair by the afore mentioned #### and it makes me feel disloyal and a bit sad.

I wouldnt worry about it, there is a fair bit of spesh bashing goes on around here

but the fact of the matter is they last....my main bike is a 2004 Sworks Enduro which is still as tight as a drum and is bomb proof as im not the kindest of riders (flat landings etc) and the frame set is still thought of as one of the best frames of the last ten years
