I think it might be a bit tense...

I think Roy hit the ground, and when Root said “did you hit it” he said I’m not sure.

This is nothing like the bowling attack we slated in the ODI series.

Absolutely. ****stan are always dangerous - with runs on the board their attack is a real handful.

Roy looked out of sorts in the field all day, then tried too hard to make up for it with the bat.

disappointing to lose but long term I don't think it harms us much..... sure it shows that we are beatable but it also shows that we can chase down big totals which in turn means that sides have to post big totals against us. Kind of scoreboard pressure even before we have runs on the board, if opponents know they need >300 scores to be competitive.

And should knock any ideas of being pre-tournament complacent favourites on the head.

Half decent rebuilding by the Aussies, should be a good seeing how WI go chasing this down.

Anything under 350 from here a disappointment.

Good final overs for England. Hope that Jos’s discomfort doesn’t keep him off the field.

They don’t look comfortable with Archer’s pace. He’s unlucky not to have had a second wicket.

Whose bright idea was it to make the stumps heavier so you need a nuclear explosion to remove the bails? The fact that it is Warner getting away with it is even more annoying.

In retrospect, Warner getting reprieved by heavy bails was a disaster for Aus. He's a one day dinosaur, and I wish him a long innings in the rest of their matches.

Chewed through a lot of dot balls, as one of the commentators has it. Whilst I’m obviously wanting an England WC title, thinking an India v. NZ final.

NZ getting the job done without looking impressive so far. India have been very good for a long time - all bases covered.

WI a big game for us on Friday. I know it’s early, but if we lose I don’t see us getting through.

I believe a 1655 start is the cutoff for a 20 over match. Looks unlikely - that’s SA out of the tournament and a 3rd point dropped by the WIndies.

Although still an echo of ****stan’s start in ‘92...

Had a frustrating day at the Ageas Bowl- small consolation to be entitled to a rocket refund. SA were poor in the short time that they were batting.

After 15 overs and Gayle out, that’s a good toss to win.

Roy’s injury is concerning, although Vince is a very able replacement.

Couldn’t follow the game yesterday, great win and I like the way we adapted to get the result.
Shame the weather washed out India v NZ, would have been an interesting game and see how NZ fared against one of the favourites.
Looking forwards to tomorrow’s game.

Agreed. There doesn't looked to be a plan-b for the Windies in their bowling attack, if they aren't getting extra lift from the short stuff then they just don't look dangerous. The atmosphere looked amazing at Taunton, got there with 51 balls to spare too - they might have chased down 400!

At 32 overs India were 187-1 and ended up with the highest ODI score recorded at Old Trafford so I think they're doing OK.

Ahh shucks - if he'd got a 6 off the last ball I *think* it would have equalled the all time ODI high score. However still the highest score the World Cup ever.

EDIT - miles out , highest ever was 443 - 9 by Sri Lanka and it wasn't the highest WC ODI either.

My stats are shit LOL

Yep, quite an innings! Morgan's back seemed OK 😁
Was trying to find a bet at the start of the game for the Ground Record going and England winning by the highest run margin of the tournament so far but drew a blank!

The all time record in the WC is 417 by the Aussies against (you guessed it) Afghanistan - this was the 6th highest total.

From the Guardian commentary...

When Morgan came out to bat, the leading six-hitter in this tournament was the Australian captain Aaron Finch, with 14, from 310 balls faced. Morgan hit 17 sixes today, from only 71 balls

:-O
