So my wife bought me a Kindle for Xmas. Never thought I needed one, but really got into it. And then on holiday a couple of weeks ago the screen got cracked whilst shoved in a beach bag.
Called Amazon and told them the truth and they are going to send me a new replacement Kindle. Can't believe it! What happened to greedy world domination obsessed multi national organisations? Don't they realise they are going to ruin their reputations if they start treating people like this?
Amazon make money from the e-books you keep downloading. They could just about give the hardware away....
yes, but given that they sell the hardware for over £150 and have a monopoly on sale of spares I would have expected to have to pay £50 - £90 for a replacement screen
god bless america...
First time I broke one the replacement was free. Second time I broke it, I had to pay £40.
Got to send the lighted cover back too, the clasp/hook thingy has worn, so power to the light is intermittent, and it no longer holds the Kindle in place securely- if you pick up the cover carelessly the Kindle drops on the floor.
They only sell the Kindles to create a market for the ebooks. Same as Sony and PS3s. Or photocopiers.
Multinationals are great
Right, then:
god bless america
😕
Anyone?
Can't believe it! What happened to greedy world domination obsessed multi national organisations?
That was true to an extent 20-100 years ago, but those people who love a conspiracy and/or small shop snobs cling onto it.
People whinge about Starbucks, but I can't understand why. They make a product that a lot of people like, so they're successful. Nowt wrong with that is there?
Back on topic - there was a rumour they'd make them free at some point. Think about how much effort goes into publishing a £6.99 paperback - someone has to spend 50 years growing trees, harvest them, make them into paper, ship them to the printers, someone has to set it all up, print the books, send them to a warehouse, then to a bookshop, then you buy it (also I think a writer makes some cash too 🙂 ). All that costs £6.99. For ebooks all they have to do is send some bytes your way which is practically free, and they only charge a quid less. Must be big profit margins.
