I've got a cheapo sliding mitre saw that I only use to cut up stuff for firewood and it's probably due a new blade.
I may have a requirement to make about 20 cuts in some 3mm wall thickness steel tube - would a multi-material blade be Ok for that as well as chopping up my old waste wood?
Or would I be better to stick with a cutoff disc in the angle grinder?
I've had a multi-material blade in my mitre saw since I bought it (an Evolution one) - still cuts all materials very well after many years of use.

Same here. It also cuts aluminium very well, as the fence will attest when I forgot to slide it out of the way on a compound mitre cut 🤣
I think timber type circ saws run a bit faster than the evolution ones but for 3mm should be fine.
Based on recent experience of building a gate. After about 10 shots at 3mm wall steel. That blade will be mince. It'll still cut eventually and smeary But you'll fit a new one and wonder what the **** you were doing .
It is very easy to use those TCT blades long beyond their safe useful life.
But they will give much better control over angle and repeatability of cut.
Check out the saw speed and maximum blade speed. The evolution blades are rated to about 5000rpm but a lot of regular wood blades run to over 9000rpm. A burst blade at those speed will hurt a lot!

my Diablo blade is still going strong after 5+ years of timber cutting and occasional metal or scrap wood with embedded nails
I do find Diablo hard to come by in England, but I’m sure Evolution will have an equivalent multimateral blade
EDIT: Cannot upload a photo (ad nauseam) so here’s a weblink to the style of blade www.diablotools.com/products/D0736GPA
