currently struggling with arthritis in big toe which is making walking very painful and riding uncomfortable at best. hoping to see foot specialist but not hopeful that surgery etc will be an option. take all the reccomended supplements etc and a few more since posting about this last week.

so, fellow sufferers, do you find that riding is good/bad for the pain, or makes any difference etc etc

Thanks

I have it in my big toe and find riding less painfull than walking. SPDs are stiff shoes

TJ - I agree that walking hurts more than riding. pretty down getting this reduction in mobility coupled with bad pain now though.....( I am a few yrs behind you too....)

If you have any good tips on managing it and are happy to mail me that would be very helpful.....

Iain - mine is only slight, I just ignore it so no helpful tips apart from perhaps go to a podiatrist for a gait assessment and possible orthotic inserts

I had my left arm pinned back together as a kid (BMX incident) and I actually find the only guaranteed relief from the arthritic pain is riding.

hi
i have rhumatoid athritis in both knees and hands and i refuse to let it stop me from riding, i think if i do it will be the day it gets a lot worse. i cant manage to ride like i could when i was younger, as far and hard, but i manage enough to go out and enjoy myself still.an opperation wont realy be an option for a toe i would think. i had a lot of opperations and it didnt improve my condition one bit, ive tried various drugs methotrexate ect...and i wouldnt recomend any off them , as the side effects are awfull. my advise is ride what you can and dont give in. i'm as stiff as a board if i havnt riden or walked a good distance for a day or two
matt

I have had an op on one and its improved, but the other is now painful, so there is light at the end of the tunnel. Having a double hip replacement would enable me to ride but thats not a good idea in a 35 year old.
